What, pray tell, is "inequality?"

If everyone is handed the same number of pesos or rubles or kroner, does that end "inequality?"

Or do some people deserve more pesos or rubles or kroner than others because they have more "needs?"

Or should all income be turned over to the central government so they can determine who deserves what?

On wag retwitted it with the comment “He seems to talk like Jesus!”

the naivete of these armchair theologians was to be expected.

Great and now we can hear all of the back tracking and explaining just what precisely this socialist meant

Inequality? Can I be a Pope? How about a runway model? A brain surgeon? 6 feet tall?

If we were meant to be equal, we would not have been created so uniquely.

And here I thought it was the LOVE OF MONEY for some strange reason. How did I get it so wrong?

“And here I thought it was the LOVE OF MONEY for some strange reason. How did I get it so wrong?”

Probably you were quoting Paul and the Bible instead of Karl Marx and The Communist Manifesto.

If Il Papa intends this statement to be a barb against some race, he would benefit by learning a lot more about the Arabian people.

I always thought pride and envy were the root of social evil.

Forced Equality was the root of evil in the 20th Century.

"Social" evil?

Hearken back to Genesis - was "inequality" the root of the Fall? Was "inequality" the cause of Cain slaying Abel?

Someone please elucidate me - my country is rapidly going down the tubes and now my Faith is doing the same.

I guess I should bitch and moan about not getting into an elite University. Why? because my skin is the wrong color and I have this thing between my legs about which I am not embarrassed or confused.

Obviously I am not "nuanced" enough to make my way in this Brave New World that glorifies sodomy, treason and the destruction of Western Civilization.

Still, I will stand and bear Witness.

America demands Justice for the Fallen of Benghazi!

O stranger, tell the Lacedaemonians that we lie here, obedient to their command.

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

Even if we were to accept this simple statement, can anyone suggest a cure, a way to force equality of all peoples, that isn’t worse than the alleged problem? I respectfully submit that permitting all people to strive to achieve their individual goals , limited only to prevent harm to others, is the best attainable social policy ( with, yes, a “ safety net” for those who are genuinely unable to contribute sufficient goods or services to others so that they may sustain themselves decently, such as the seriously disabled). Trying to force equality necessitates a confiscatory police state. Also, it fails to recognize that not all people have the same goals - nor does everybody value the same things in life. People are not cattle or sheep. Indeed, we are taught that God’s given each of us different gifts and abilities and talents... And that God hopes we will each make good use of what he’s given us
And, that God loves each of us as individuals with free will— He did not design us as identical clones all confirming to one cookie- cutter design for life. As (a practical as well as) a spiritual matter, people’s individualities require recognition, appreciation, and the liberty of expression in this life.

His mouth is at least big enough for 10 normal popes. When he speaks or twitters about this kind of stuff (social justice issues) he's just another dude spouting off -- not speaking for or changing the doctrine of the Catholic Church. Wish he'd shut up (if reported correctly).

If you read the actual position of the Church on the issues you will find it is all common sense, down-to-earth stuff we'd all agree with.
