The pope was only making a point, not a formal doctrinal position. There is no need to be so serious or critical.

No mention of Jesus...No mention of repentance...Not a word about sin...It’s all about the miracle water...

Might end up with a lot of Catholic greys and amphibians but won’t none of them make it to heaven...

That’s one goofy religion...

Wasn’t this green-hued Orion beauty one of Pastor Kirk’s conversions

“Animals do not have souls.”

Spiritual souls at least. My dog does definitely have a soul of some sort.

I don't recall, other than the green girls were to try and "convert" Kirk, maybe? (How many guys out there can resist anything except temptation, eh?)

There was more than one episode. The one pictures was the original I think. "Vina".

There was another one not quite as green. "Marta".

I'm no tekky, but was just noodling around for imagery.

Came up with this http://www.themakeupgallery.info/fantasy/alien/st/orion/vina.htm Actress -- Susan Oliver

The Pope Has Said: "Animals Too Have Souls, Just Like Men"

This is an example of how ill prepared this Jesuit is for the Office of the Bishop of Rome. As someone else has already mentioned, salvation history is only for the sons and daughters of Adam and Eve.

His example reminds me a horrible hymn being sung in Catholic Churches now that includes the phrase, “O God beyond our galaxy”. The ignorance and lack of training in the Catholic Church today must be what was meant by Jesus’ prediction “will there be any Faith left”?

Since Catholics baptize babies without any given consent and consider it legitimate, the pope should fill a firetruck with holy water and head to the middle east and converting muslims.

Following Aristotle, there are three kinds of levels of souls.

Ignore Aristotle just as he ignores the scriptures...What an animal is lacking is a spirit...Humans have a spirit...Animals do not...Animals will not go to heaven...

I don’t know any chimps with the intelligence to travel through space, and that’s the only way an alien could reach the Pope.

Theologians tend to believe ensoulment would apply to any species capable of rational thought. Dumb alien species would not have souls while others would have souls.

Perhaps he was merely making a point, but it’s a point people connected to the Vatican continue to make. I don’t think that’s an accident. You may not take the topic seriously, but some important Jesuits seem to take this topic very seriously. Just last month a leading Jesuit astronomer lectured in the U.K. on the topic of baptizing extraterrestrials.
