Suits allege St. John's Abbey monk abused 2 'cabin kids'

The clergy sex abuse lawsuit against the Twin Cities archdiocese headed northwest Monday, when documents related to child abuse by five monks at St. John’s Abbey in Collegeville, Minn., were released and a lawsuit was filed to pry open the abbey’s files.

The letters and internal memos were among the thousands of pages of documents the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis provided to attorneys as part of a lawsuit.

They covered five monks previously identified as abusers — including the Rev. Richard Eckroth, who brought hundreds of students to an abbey cabin for overnight trips.

Money quote: Attorney Jeff Anderson said many of the archdiocese documents were heavily edited.

“A lot of material that should be made public hasn’t been,’’ Anderson said.

The Catholic Church STILL refuses to admit the truth about the sexual abuse of children by priests, monks and others in the church. All this while Pope Frank launches an appeals process for the abusers! Sickening.

So, you’re keeping Catholics in your prayers, right? Even the perpetrators?

I think you are right that many Church leaders still don’t fathom that these are crimes, not reprehensible human failings. And those guys will be answering to God and their victims on Judgment Day.

I just hope that you do not paint the whole Church with the same condemnatory brush.

Actually the evidence leans more toward obsession, over news content, nevermind broad brush.

Thankfully, there are fewer and fewer Caholic targets to obsess on, after their Mach 10 program got instituted.

There are liars all over the place and it’s not always clear who they are.

That being the case, to whom more is entrusted, more will be expected.

I do condemn the whole church and especially her congregants. It is inexplicable to me how intelligent people can blindly adhere to a church doctrine that is humanistic, anti-Biblical and produces corruption on a global basis, all while calling themselves Christians!

And, yes, I do pray for all people who don't know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. JPII wanted to name Mary a "co-redemptrix" with Jesus Christ. That is flat-out heresy and is typical of a church that is not built on faith in Christ Alone.

Not blind. For some reason anti-Catholic people like to think Catholics are these robots or brain-washed cult members. That would be a satisfying and simple explanation, were it correct.

I don’t know much about the co-redemptrix thing. If you look at what is really required to be believed about Mary, the virgin birth is about it. The rest, even our beloved rosary, is optional, and to be used only to the extent that it is actually pointing you toward Christ our Lord. Think of Catholicism as a whale that has accumulated a lot of barnacles. Not exactly tidy, but a damned impressive creature of God, nonetheless.
