A controversial new book from a mainstream, evangelical Christian publisher is being described by a critic as a new low-water mark for the industry while an advocate calls it a game changer.
God and the Gay Christian: The Biblical Case in Support of Same-Sex Relationships, by Matthew Vines, who describes himself as a gay Christian, has been released by Convergent Books, an imprint of WaterBrook/Multnomah Publishing.
Ingrid Schlueter, a long-time conservative voice in Christian media, sees Vines book as yet another example of evangelicals accommodating a culture in moral free-fall.
All the theological contortions in the world by evangelical authors and publishers cannot change the Word of God and its teachings on the issue of marriage and homosexuality, she said. The fact that this book is being published, by a mainstream evangelical publisher is no surprise, as evangelicalism is largely jettisoning the authority of the Word of God on sexual ethics and is instead accommodating a culture in moral free-fall.

“For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.”
2 Cor 11:13-14 ESV
Evangelicalism’s decline was well underway in the 1970’s, when “no-fault liability insurance salvation” made huge headway. I subsequently spoke with many church-going young people who assured me that fornication was perfectly acceptable and wouldn’t affect your salvation, “because they had made the decision.” Additionally, drunkenness, divorce and accompanying adultery, perverted views of God, and all other manner of decidedly unChristian behavior began to be seen as minor infractions against their no-fault policy.
How is adding homosexuality to this smorgasbord of perversion going to alter this much more?
God and the Gay Christian: The Biblical Case in Support of Same-Sex Relationships,
Matthew Vines is a pretzel. He would have to twist the
teachings of the bible about as much as Roberts did the
constitution with the Obamacare “tax”.
There is absolutely nothing normal about hetreophobia.
Evangelicalism = Plastic Christanity.
Not susprised at all that this book was made.
Vines is no more a representative of Evangelicalism than Pelosi is one for Catholicism.
Forgiveness mean something needed to either be forgiven or payed for in the first place
Christ is paying your debt, your shame is that you run up that debt like your were given a no limit gold card and everything is free
Actually, if you survey the official doctrines of the denominations, you will find that few if any teach what you said. Certain Baptists do but that’s about it.
Yes, understood. But I’m talking about practice and current teaching apart from official doctrine.
You nailed it. No unrepentant sinner will go to heaven. Homosexual behavior is specifically called out as a sin, can’t get around it.
First off, this publisher has publish a lot of books like that, even created an imprint for the non-Christian books.
God is not laughing...
The word of God never breaks regardless how it’s twisted, pulled and contorted.
For an encore, maybe someone can write a book denying the Divinity of Christ.
