“Now here’s one evangelical that had a special place in his heart for our Blessed Mother”

That is an interesting story, considering that Elvis was supposedly raised as a Fundamentalist. He was somewhat of a neighbor of mine when he bought his first house on Audubon Dr. in Memphis. Even though he expressed it in music, I am not aware of any church attendance in his popular years.
Thanks for this, I have read some bios on Elvis, he’s an intriguing figure as the comments allude to. Those bios get a bit gossipy and I’m enough of a fan to just bypass some of that. There is an Elvis forum on the net. I never really participated in it but I’d read it a bit to see what was going on. The man sang some great songs.
Maybe Scots treat him as one of their own too. Presley a Scottish surname? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presley Apparently a complex question.
His only Grammy’s were for Gospel Albums.

Very interesting, thanks for posting this.
I was so struck by Elvis’ “Miracle of the Rosary,” that we put it on our Rosary site: http://rosaryforpeace.com
We listen to the Elvis gospel segment on SiriusXM every Sunday on the way to Mass, LOL.
Elvis gave a sizable amount to the USS Arizona Memorial.
“A concert by Elvis Presley raised $64,000 for the memorial, but federal and indivdual funding was also involved
The public law stipulated that the monument would be built without federal funding. The Pacific War Memorial Commission was tasked with raising the $500,000 required it build the structure. Several organizations and individuals helped in the effort to raise the required amount. In 1958, the Territory of Hawaii contributed the initial $50,000. On December 3rd, 1958 the popular television series, This is Your Life hosted by Ralph Edwards featured Samuel Fuqua, Medal of Honor recipient and the senior surviving officer from the USS Arizona. This broadcast kicked off the public fundraising campaign.”
“After Elvis returned home from the army, he started an annual holiday season custom of contributing funds to Memphis charities. In November 1962, Elvis presented Memphis Mayor Loeb with a $50,000 donation to a combination of Memphis charities. A few days before Christmas in 1963, Elvis was back in the mayors office, this time handing over a check for $55,000 to be distributed among 58 local charities. Elvis donated similar amounts to Memphis charities at years end in both 1964 and 1965. By 1966, his generosity to the needy in his hometown had doubled to over $100,00. The following religious season, Elvis pledged $10,500 to the Memphis Jewish Community Center Building Fund.”

Priscilla Presley’s own book sounds interesting, synopsis: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elvis_and_Me

The video in this link was made in 1952 as a metaphor for war, but by choosing the flower to represent Jesus teachings, it certainly is a good metaphor for the baiting presented by both SOME Roman Catholics and SOME Protestants.
Don’t know if it was ever shown Stateside, but I’ve seen it several times as a youngster and most Canadians under 75 will likely remember it. I’m sure I’ll get flamed by both sides in this dispute.
