Kirsten Powers gets it dangerously wrong on the Bible and homosexuality
One News Now ^ | June 7, 2014 | Dr. Michael Brown

Posted on 06/07/2014 8:48:32 PM PDT by ReformationFan

t is wonderful to read the account of Kirsten Powers' conversion from atheism to Christianity. But that doesn't make her into a Bible scholar or theologian, and Powers has made some grave errors in her recent article on "Christianity's new look on gays."

She begins by asking the question, "Could there be a future where most American Christians support same-sex relationships?"

The obvious answer is: "Only if these Christians renounce the Word of God and the God of the Word."

But that is not how she answers her question. Instead, she writes: "If so, it will be due to the emergence of conservative Christians who say orthodox believers can support life-long, monogamous gay relationships without undermining their commitment to biblical authority."

This is a truly unfortunate statement, as riddled with self-contradictions as it with theological fallacies.

In short, the only way a professing Christian "can support life-long, monogamous gay relationships" is by ceasing to be a conservative Christian, ceasing to be an orthodox believer, and completely undermining their commitment to biblical authority.

I hope Miss Powers' errors here are due to her being a baby Christian recently converted who's been swimming in liberalism for way too long. But she needs to stop commenting on this issue until she's acquired more Biblical insight and discernment.

That’s very possible. Or maybe PCUSA. I believe she currently attends a PCA church(Redeemer in NYC). Perhaps someone needs to inform her of the PCA’s stand on this issue-

Sexual purity needs to once again be preached.

The 60’s creeps have turned that upside down but it’s the only way to remain civilized. God wants men to love and protect women. What’s going on now will lead to more and more deep unhappiness for women.

She’s very attractive and seems like a pleasant(albeit very misguided) person with horrid political views. Eventually though, she will have to decide if she believes the Bible is truly the word of God or not.

This country has embraced the sick perversion of homosexuality as normal, that we go on to celebrate this sickness and promote it, and then we go on to create hate crimes or create an environment where people lose their jobs if they disagree with this sickness.

Homosexuality is a judgement on America she is a tool to further the judgement.

This needs to be pointed out consistently - homosexuality will not bring judgement upon our country; homosexuality IS the judgement. Romans 1:26 starts with “For this reason” and continues “God gave them up to vile passions.” “..men with men committing what is shameful”; so this is a judgement upon our society.

It also continues and says that they give approval to others for more and more evil acts. We see this today with our legislatures accepting homosexual marriages and the teaching of it as acceptable in the schools.

Note also that Romans 1:32 points out that those who approve of such conduct are just as guilty as those who engage in it.

kirsten's wonderful conversion to conservative thought and becoming a Christian should be verified biblically, especially when she is stealthily trying to defend ungodliness and sin.

Matthew 7:16

By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

based on what i have seen and heard, i remain very skeptical. have we forgotten the lesson of the trojan horse ?

Many (perhaps most) theological seminaries were subverted by the same socialist academicians that subverted the universities in the late 19th and early 20th centuries with the ‘gospel of Marx.’

This resulted in many subtle shifts in Christian theology, many of which have roots (albeit abused and altered roots) in the Bible.

The general movement is known as the Social Gospel (social as in “socialist”), and it has resulted in a tremendous amount of misguidance from the pulpit.

The support of same-sex marriage (please don’t refer to it as gay marriage, because heterosexuals are equally prohibited from marrying someone of the same sex as homosexuals) is a part of that subversion.

Beware the wolf in sheep’s clothing. Yes, they often carry a Bible and speak in the smooth, soothing tones of the shepherd.

But they often do not preach the raw truth of the gospel, and they use the gospel, the church, and the Christian’s desire to be true to God and His word to push the socialist agenda on His people.

You may be ask, “What’s wrong with that? I know Christian socialists (or Socialist Christians) and they are fine people.”

We have the blood-splattered laboratory of 20th century as all the proof we need of the anti-religious hatred of the atheistic humanists. The Socialist Christians are only a step or two behind them with their ideology.

I remember an old saying “I’m all in favor of converting the town harlot but don’t make her the lead singer in the choir the next day.”

She may well be a Trojan horse but if Miss Powers’ conversion was real, she needs to stop commenting on these issues and be put under strong Biblical teaching for a while. I think Chuck Colson withdrew from the public for a while after his conversion so he could be strengthened and educated in his faith. She should do the same if indeed she’s a true convert.

The Bible has very explicit scriptures on the topic of homosexuality even labeling it an abomination. God’s word will not be altered or changed to make the practice of it as acceptable. Gay Pride will NEVER clear that hurdle yet the wilfull arrogance against His word will have a price to pay.

Ok, maybe this makes me a bad Christian, but I really don’t care what 2 or more consenting adults do behind closed doors. What offends me is that they insist on rubbing my nose in their perversions. I don’t try to rub their noses in mine; can’t I get the same respect?

In fact, most of the radical left who appear on FOX are there for one purpose .. to poison the conversation. It’s not for a second opinion; it’s to sow confusion. I wish FOX would figure that out.

When the two “consenting adults” claim the right to marry, are they acting “behind closed doors,” or demanding that the state reward them for what you think is a private act? Evil will out, as the saying goes, and consent to an evil deed does not make it good.

If you're a "bad Christian", then I am too. I agree 100% with what you're saying. What two consenting adults do in the privacy of their own homes I really couldn't care less. Don't force me to watch it, subsidize it (as in homo pride parades on tax-funded streets), and definitely don't involve kids in it -- as in no homo adoption! If you want an example of what happens to kids who get caught up in the homo scene, Google "Jesse Dirkhising", God rest his soul.

In general women don’t see that the gay movement is all about men neglecting their duty to care for women and provide satisfaction for them. Now we have a whole generation of young women who will have to.go thru years of unhappiness before they will understand this concept. Tragic.

“Ok, maybe this makes me a bad Christian, but I really don’t care what 2 or more consenting adults do behind closed doors.”

If you truly are a believer In Jesus Christ; born of the Spirit of God, then you should very well care what God thinks of homosexuality.

1 Cor 6:20 - For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

In addition, the homo agenda is far more destructive to society than simply two guys up eachother’s @$$ behind closed doors. They target little boys in schools, organizations like the Boy Scouts, and in places of worship.

God’s word will not be altered or changed to make the practice of it as acceptable.

How about forgivable? The difference between the condemned in the Old Covenant, and the redeemed in the New Covenant, is the Blood of Jesus which is the only thing that makes us pure and worthy - despite our continuing sinful natures. Go through a whole day without a sinful thought/act and you can sit in judgement. Until then all you can do is resist your own temptations and try to follow the two great commandments.

SOME will start the attack on the young, attractive women FORGETTING totally how they once thought that ANY middle aged woman who complained about young women were just BITTER OLD WOMEN.

Personally I believe the gospel has been perverted so many years by both conservatives and liberals that it has became nothing more than a game.

We have preachers on every corner who are no longer preaching the gospel but trying to shove their view down some one elses throat.

Any one who reads into the scripture something that is not there are liars.

According to many preachers you simply can not be a human being with out fear of being sent to hell, and they will twist the scripture around to prove it.

Smoking, drinking wine, plus a hundred other things that they put in the same category with homosexuality.

On one side of the argument is the (if it feels good do it) as long as you believe in Christ you will be saved.

On the other side you have to be much cleaner than Jesus was to even stand a chance of reaching the kingdom of God, Jesus would not be seen as a Christian.

Homosexuality is an abomination, we can not judge them to hell, only God can do that, i also can not pretend to love them because i don`t, and actually i would be seen as pretty liberal in biblical matters.

Open homosexualism is open anti God, that is the object, A Christian could not admit to being gay even if they were which i doubt. but a God hater could say anything in order to slap God in the face as if that were possible.

The point i am trying to make ( and doing a pretty sorry job of) is that when one side goes a step up, the other side will go a step down.

People will take one side or the other instead of reading the scripture for them selves to see what it really says and what it don`t say.

So it is not a matter of conservative or liberal as they both lie about scripture, they just go in the opposite directions..

Lies are of the devil and the devil is trying to destroy Gods kingdom, the only way we can be in Gods kingdom is to believe what the Bible says, not what some liar said that it says.

I literally have no idea what you're talking about.

I surmise that what the poster was saying was that if you "really couldn't care less” “what two consenting adults do in the privacy of their own homes" then it means you could care less about some terrorist attacks being planned behind closed doors. But to be analogous then it must be shown that what is being done behind closed doors in the case of sodomites also negatively affects the public.

The sodomy lobby argues that it does not, yet that it does is indeed is the case. Consider that over half a million Americans have died because of HIV/AIDS, and for which sodomy is the main cause. And among other things, even 30 years after the HIV epidemic began, and trying to tame sodomites, yet in 2011, in the United States, MSM accounted for 79% of 38,825 estimated HIV diagnoses among all males aged 13 years and older, and 78% of infections among all newly infected men. http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/risk/gender/msm/facts/index.html

Add to that the [2006] lifetime (now 24.2 years avg.) HIV care cost per person in optimal HIV care being $618,900 per person. The discounted (accounting for the time-specific value of costs and benefits) lifetime cost of comprehensive treatment per HIV-infected person was $385,000. The total cost, including lost productivity, of the estimated 40,000 new HIV infections expected to occur in the United States every year, was estimated to be approximately $53 billion. - http://cid.oxfordjournals.org/content/45/Supplement_4/S248.full

And 41% of people who are "transgender or gender-nonconforming" have attempted suicide sometime in their lives, almost 9 times the national average. - http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-suicide-attempts-alarming-transgender-20140127,0,3324954.story#ixzz2vRHkyu7v

If taking part in another consensual act, say the Lord's supper, resulted in all this, with overall a greatly increased incidence of infectious diseases and premature death, and being primarily responsible for the death of over half a million Americans - despite 30 years of trying to promote a "safe" way to engage in it - at the least i do not think it would be advocated and encouraged, and those who did not agree with it shouted down as "racist" and Christianophobic, and depriving Christians of their rights by outlawing it, which they should if this relation was so manifestly evident.

Yet homosexuality is wrong for deeper reasons than the typical deleterious physical ones, but extends into the uniquely compatible and complimentary, and only joined them in marriage, which Jesus Himself specified. (Gn. 2:18-24; Mt. 19:4-6) Homosexual unions are thus only condemned by God in the Scriptures, by design and decree, in principle and in precept.

And attempts to force homosexual relations into passages it does not belong extends even to pro homosexual apologetics on the Bible, the specious nature of which this reveals, and i find the manipulation of the Bible by them to be more serious than even homosexuality.

However, some of the first Christians were likely former homosexuals, (1Cor. 6:9-11) and there is room at the cross for all who want the Lord Jesus over sin, and believe upon Him to save them who died for them, and rose again. And who thus are baptized and follow Him, to the glory of God.

Her column certainly didn’t surprise me. She was and is a progressive with all of the confused thoughts that accompany that philosophy. She’s also a former atheist, of course; but very notably, she “converted” to Protestantism. For anyone (other than committed Protestants) to be surprised that she would continue along her same, confused path that she followed as an atheist, lives in a liberal dreamworld.

But lest my Protestant friends feel slighted by this observation, I must assure them that I would have expected almost the same column from her if she opted instead to become a Neo-Catholic. There is virtually no air between the Vatican II Neo-Catholics (being blindly led by the progressive media without so much as a word of objection from our Modernist bishops) and the Protestants. If one fails to recognize that the Modernist Catholic bishops of the Neo-Catholic Church will not ultimately embrace some version of homosexual unions, much like the protestants are now doing, they are seriously not following what is going on in the Church today.

However, for those new on the Catholic scene, be assured that the one true Catholic Church that holds fast to the traditional teachings of that Church without deviation, will not change, and will never embrace any form of sinful behavior such as homosexuality. Never! And as for Kirsten Powers, who knows; since this young woman appears to be slowly waking up to the truth, maybe one day she’ll pick up a copy of the Remnant Newspaper, the Catholic Family News or almost any book of the late, great Michael Davies, and actually wake up completely. I pray she does.

Thanks for the clarification. I see what you're saying now, and can respond.

"I surmise that what the poster was saying was that if you "really couldn't care less” “what two consenting adults do in the privacy of their own homes" then it means you could (sic) care less about some terrorist attacks being planned behind closed doors."

There's no telling what anyone could be plotting behind closed doors. So in order to prevent some unseen terrorist plot from being hatched, what do you recommend? Does that mean we should throw out the 4th Amendment, kick in everyone's doors who may be doing something suspicious? Should there be no privacy for anyone? That's the logical end to what you seem to be suggesting. That "I'll agree to anything as long as it stops terrorism" mentality is what got us the so-called "Patriot Act", and the NDAA.

Your statistics in the next three paragraphs are good...staggering, in fact. But think of how many people are killed while driving their private automobiles. Because so many more people are killed each year in auto accidents, should we do away with private cars, and force everyone to ride in public transportation?

How about doctors mistakes? They kill nearly 200K people each year, in the (government mandated) privacy of the doctor's office. Should we do away with the privacy a consenting adult is entitled to when getting medical care, just because the doctor might possibly somehow make a mistake that might somehow possibly maybe harm the patient?

You don't like it, I don't like it, and the majority of Americans don't like it, but homosexuality is legal. Homos are protected by the same 4th Amendment expectations of privacy as the rest of us. If they harm someone in the commission of their vile, disgusting acts, then they should be punished. But until and unless they do, it's none of our business what they do in private.

It's no different than someone eating or putting on makeup in their car. It's legal, but may not be the best idea in the world. However, if someone is hurt because the distracted driver hits them, then it becomes a criminal matter.

Should we ban food, radios, makeup, pets, little kids, cellphones, computers, maps, books, and everything else that could be a distraction in cars, just because they sometimes lead people to distraction? No. Should we forbid doctors from drinking alcohol, staying up past 10:00 on a work night, or doing anything else that might cloud their judgment, because they might make a mistake that could hurt someone? No. Should be ban consenting adults from doing whatever disgusting and immoral acts they choose, just because we don't like it and someone might get hurt? No. It's the downside of the 4th Amendment...you can't infringe on people's privacy just because you don't like what they're doing, or you think they might be up to no good.

OTOH, people like Jesse Dirkhising's parents, who put the boy into that situation, and the two homos who raped him to death, should have been executed, as painfully as possible, pure and simple. Then again, Jesse Dirkhising was just a boy, unable to give his consent, and unable to protect himself...that was his parents' responsibility.

Actually, Kirsten Powers, while still quite attractive and youthful looking, is actually about 44 or 45 years old.

=================================

Actually, MOST Hollywood types are the poster children for cosmetic surgery, male and female. Hollyweird requires "perfect" and there AIN'T too many perfect "naturals" on this planet.

Tom Cruise was one. But even he is starting to show his age: crow's feet, bit of a sag around the chin and such.

Doesn't matter how "perfect" they are at 20, 30 or 45, the wrinkles do come for those of us who let nature take its course. Hollyweird types HAVE to have the "perfect" look or they will not ever become "Hollyweird types."

No, I was not suggesting that, but simply that what goes on in secret is not necessarily harmless. Once we understand it is a problem, then like known and real child abuse, then how to deal with it can be discussed. See below.

But think of how many people are killed while driving their private automobiles. Because so many more people are killed each year in auto accidents, should we do away with private cars, and force everyone to ride in public transportation?

No, as transportation is essential and serves much good, and the ratio of that versus harm is small. Sodomy is not, and civil rights pertain amoral aspects as race and nationality, not behavior. Though if a culture of a group or country is Muslims is shown to be characteristically contrary to the ethos of America, those persons may be refused admittance to this country. libs want to do away with even the perfunctory citizens oath.

How about doctors mistakes?

Ditto. And if patients had anything even close to 79% HIV rate i do not think you would even need laws, but behavior driven by lust and perverse desire is a different story. So far the analogies are not valid.

A better one would be sports, as the ratio of injury to participation is quite high, and as in gladiator fights, there is a point wherein it can becomes immoral. But thus the league rules and officials are in place to enable participation with a tolerable amount of injuries, but which are rarely fatal.

But you cannot place bedroom monitors among sodomites, and after 30 years they have manifested they are unable to regulate themselves overall. Even their "marriages" are typically redefined to allow promiscuity. Thus what can be done is to treat it like possessing and sharing child porn, arrestable and penalized if caught.

But even dealing with sodomy on the basis of the overall manifest evil that results from their typical practice is superficial. Behind the laws of every nation is a foundational system of values, which usually were codified in religion, and which is implicitly the case with America with its Constitution which testifies to a deeper foundational morality and wisdom.

And beyond what is manifest as the effects of a behavior is the wisdom of God, and is to be relied upon versus the ever morphing morality of social engineering.

It seems you are a libertarian, and i myself do not like to rely on the gov., yet only as souls are controlled from within by God and conscience do they need not be controlled from without by that entity to whom the just use of the sword of men is sanctioned.

However (going off on a tangent), as the people indirectly vote in those who interpret the Constitution and make laws, then as they become less Christian in mind, heart and will, and are seduced by the devil to seeks glory by perverting what God made, then the gov. itself with increasingly punish those who are on the Lord's side to varying degrees.

If one fails to recognize that the Modernist Catholic bishops of the Neo-Catholic Church will not ultimately embrace some version of homosexual unions, much like the protestants are now doing, they are seriously not following what is going on in the Church today.

Neo-Catholic Church. Haven't heard that description before. That's a good one. I lean more towards Pseudo-Catholic Church or Vatican II Sect these days however.

However, for those new on the Catholic scene, be assured that the one true Catholic Church that holds fast to the traditional teachings of that Church without deviation, will not change, and will never embrace any form of sinful behavior such as homosexuality. Never!

Amen brother.
