The victims have been identified as Father Kenneth Walker, 29, and Father Joseph Terra, 56.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos said Terra called 911 from Mother of Mercy Mission Catholic Church near 15th Avenue and Van Buren Street at around 9 p.m. Wednesday. Police arrived to find two priests badly injured in the cuhrch’s living quarters.
Based on Terra’s call, they believe this might have been a botched burglary.

Police said the suspect or suspects also stole a vehicle from the church — a 2003 Mazda Tribute with the Arizona license plate AYK1358. That car, which belonged to Walker, was discovered about two blocks from the church shortly after 11 p.m.
Investigators have not said what kind of evidence technicians gathered from the car.
The suspect or suspects, who have yet to be identified, are still on the loose and considered dangerous

I wonder if they were shot in a gun free zone.

Dear Jesus, Lord in heaven, please receive into your embrace the soul of Father Walker who served you with every strength of his being and for Father Terra, who we all pray survives this awful assault, so he can continue your holy goals.

In in Tucson. One of my favorite churches (although, good Father Troutman retired this month), has signs that say the church is a gun-free zone. This is the church where the little girl died at the hands of the crazed shooter that wounded Rep. Giffords. They never learn.

In ancient ROME, people who robbed temples were thrown to the wild beasts in the arena.

This is heartbreaking. What kind of person breaks into a rectory and kills, and/or tries to kill, 2 priests? The churches give away money to those in need. This was so totally unnecessary.

Just about anyone was thrown to the wild beasts in ancient Rome. The normal day’s schedule at the Coliseum was divided into three parts. The morning began with light fare, including Venationes (beast hunts) and Bestiarii, or animal torture. Next came the Ludi Meridian, or Meridianii, a divertissement consisting the executions of of criminals or anyone, including Christians, often by wild beasts. Finally, starting in the late afternoon, came the Gladiators, with whom we are all familiar.
