Traditional Catholics Perplexed Over N.Y. Parish’s Rumored Closing [Catholic Caucus]

NEW YORK — Every week day, several traditional Catholics in New York City gather for a 6pm traditional Latin Mass at the Church of the Holy Innocents, a Gothic-Revival structure in Manhattan’s Garment District.

On Sundays, a 10:30am sung high Mass in the extraordinary form, which features a talented schola, attracts more than 200 worshippers. The traditional parish community also attends a Sunday Rosary and 2:30pm vespers service that consistently draws more people than the 12:30pm English-language Mass.

“The Masses there are packed. They have sung Latin Masses at all major feast days and processions. What other church does that?” said Richard Janniello, a Bronx, N.Y., resident who has occasionally attended the Sunday traditional Latin Mass at Holy Innocents.

No reason to be perplexed. Cdl Dolan is closing all the “traditional” parishes he can, both those where “Traditional” refers to the Tridentine Rite mass, and those where “traditional” refers to an old-line parish church that New Yorkers have been attending for generations.

And it doesn’t matter if they’re ok financially. Dolan just doesn’t want them. He wants the neutral suburban mega-church model implanted in New York City.

Never liked Dolan. Don’t trust him as far as I can throw up.

According to an article on this subject yesterday, this church had recently raised $350,000 to restore a mural behind the altar that dated back to the 1870s. Personally, I think anyone who donates a penny to any kind of major restoration project in a parish church is crazy. These people don’t give a sh!t about the parishioners who give their hard-earned money to these efforts, and they have no qualms about closing a place down after a fortune was spent to do this kind of work.

Ann Barnhardt’s none too fond of him, either.

Specifically, Section 5).

Dolan has totally, definitively tipped his hand. After all, how many times can a bishop snuggle up to pro-aborts, and persecute real Catholics, before it is conclusively demonstrated that he is pro-abortion and not-Catholic.

Dolan said that the pro-abortion governor of New York (Paterson) was a good Catholic and Christian. Dolan congratulated an unfortunate, misguided sodomite upon his “coming out.” Dolan gave a shout-out to pro-abort Joe Biden from the sanctuary of St. Patrick’s. Dolan calls orthodox priests into his office for chewings out.

Dolan is a pro-sodomy, pro-abortion Democrat party loyalist who hates the Catholic Church—except insofar as the Church serves as a vehicle for the ego of Dolan.

I can't imagine any justification for this. It looks like a campaign of systematic destruction. How can Cdl Dolan call himself father and pastor to this neglected flock?

I can't say more without sinning.

Janniello said his attending the traditional Latin Mass on Sundays does not imply that the Mass in the ordinary form is less valid. Janniello said he attends a daily Novus Ordo Mass during the week...“It’s still the body, blood, soul and divinity of Our Lord,” Janniello said. “But certainly, there is a degree of sacredness in the traditional Latin Mass. You feel like it is heaven on earth.” [emphasis; mine]
So pretty; so perfect. Yes..........heaven on earth!

The parish and its priests care, but the diocese surely doesn’t. Especially with Dolan. I suspect that he wants to sell these properties and make a pretty penny. Virtually all of them, from what I can see, are in areas that are about to experience significant growth.

This is why the future of the Catholic Church lies with groups and organizations that would probably be considered subversive in any other age. There's no point in raising $350,000 for a restoration of anything in a church building unless someone other than the diocese holds the title to the property.

The "American Church," as I like to call it, lends more and more credibility to groups like the SSPX by the day.

Better you should ask why Dolan hates the Catholic Church?

He does hate it, except insofar as it propels him into the presence of the rich and powerful. Watch him celebrate Mass. The liturgy is nothing but a vehicle—in the theatrical sense of that word. It’s all about Dolan’s being in front of a crowd.

Dolan hates actual Catholic priests. He persecutes them.

Clearly, he has no love for the Church’s moral teaching. He slobbers all over every politician or celebrity who undermines it.

I do not think it is so much as wanting to have a “neutral” model from the burbs, but I sense a FEAR on the part of Cardinal Dolan because of “pressure coming from the outside, ether from the NYC Mayor’s office or from devolopment speculators. Just my guess.

There's nothing wrong with Dolan once you realize he's a democrat politician, not a Catholic Cardinal.

Everything falls in place once you get that fundamental fact right.

From that perspective, it's a good bet site the Church to be closed is on has a higher market value than the site the "Making All Things New" combined parishes will use. If not, then the case will be made that the target needs "major repairs" in order to meet current standards, etc.

Traditional democrat "renewal" at work with the traditional democrat approach of selecting "under performing assets" for such renewal. Urban renewal targeted the property of the black middle class who at the time were almost all Republicans, this renewal targets the properties used by traditionalists.

Democrat politics 101. See?

Once you shed the illusion that Dolan is something other than a democrat politician things fall in place. Accepting the disguise of such "shepherds" at face value is a major mistake as it leads to expectations that they'll behave like shepherds, expectations that are never met which in turn leads to demoralization.

I couldn’t stand the back-slapping, over-the-top, Fatty Arbuckle Dolan from the minute I first heard him talk about the faith. He can’t seem to get serious about anything, always talking about eating and going to baseball games, to be taken seriously as a Catholic bishop, much less a Cardinal. I just think he’s a disgrace. Can you imagine a reverent Catholic like Cardinal Burke as the archbishop of NY, instead of this clown Dolan?

I sense greed on Cdl Dolan’s part - as far as the speculators go - and no fear at all of De Blasio, who he is frequently pictured hugging. Dolan does nothing to defend Catholic positions and is an outsider trying to destroy the tough native Church that exists in NYC.

Cdl Burke as Archbishop of New York? Now that would be a dream come true.

I grew up in NYC, lived there most of my life and still go back fairly often. New Yorkers are very devout by nature and if the right person were appointed, you’d see a rebirth of Catholicism that would probably rival Renaissance Rome.
