Yeah, that’s too much to ask. Believers who hang their hat entirely on the fake Christianity of textual reading and application have fallen into the trap of relying on a vain and useless idol, instead of the real God. They have no authoritative ecclesial structures, which is why they’re completely flat-footed when faced with a challenge that requires an authoritative reading and application. The American invention of DIY Christianity is a religion of the book, searching sacred scripture like an owner’s manual the way Jews and muslims do. It’s a futile approach, without the power to rebuke evil.
