A town has banned Christians from using publicly funded facilities.
When people talk about Christian persecution, most people picture the Middle East, Asia, or Africa. Most people dont expect something as shocking as this right in the Northern Hemisphere.
Most people think of British Colombia as a beautiful place to vacation. I must admit, I spent some time there myself when I lived in the North East. Nobody would expect the tourist rich town of Nanaimo to pull a stunt like this, so full of hatred and arrogance.
Just days before a Christian Convention was to be hosted at this citys convention center, the city council voted to cancel it. In fact, the city council meeting turned into one big bigoted rant. They started claiming the Convention Center and public areas Christian free zones.

Canada has already eliminated Freedom of Speech. Why not Freedom of Religion too?
It is a youtube video.
Wow, a 45 minute long video.
Isn’t that the province that once tried to legalize kiddie porn? They want everything to be free and open except for the people they don’t like of course.
well at least there won’t be any muslim jewish or hindu group gatherings either, right?
Council has ‘regrets’ after actions perceived as discriminatory

Nanaimo city council has issued a clarification on its decision that led to the cancellation of a leadership event at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre last month. On May 5, council voted 8-1 (with Bill McKay as the sole exception) to advise the VICC not to permit event organizers, including the Daily News, to stage the Leadercast televised conference in the city-owned facility on May 9.
The motion passed by council condemned “events (that) promote or have a history of divisiveness, homophobia or other expressions of hate.”
The event’s U.S. sponsors included Chick-Fil-A. Dan T. Cathy, CEO of the U.S. restaurant chain, said in 2012 that he supports the “biblical definition” of marriage.
Several local religious leaders asked council for an apology and a reaffirmation that people of all faiths can use city facilities, and Ezra Levant, a political activist and a national columnist for Sun Media, lambasted council on his show The Source.
Coun. Bill Bestwick offered a personal apology for his part in the decision on Wednesday.
Council met in camera on Thursday following “reflection and subsequent discussions with members of Nanaimo’s faith community.”
The city on Thursday issued a statement saying council “regrets that its actions in passing the May 5 resolution has been perceived as being directed at or discriminatory against Christians or any other religious groups.”
Upon review of the matter, the city and council said they “fully support and are committed to upholding the fundamental rights and freedoms of all Canadians under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Human Rights Code,” the statement says.
While Charter values are to protect against discrimination, the city and its council recognize such rights “must sometimes be balanced between groups of Canadians having differing views and that the process of creating this balance is both challenging and complex.”
Council “strongly believe” people of all races, and religions “are entitled to use any facility,” says the statement.
“If presented with comparable circumstances again, Nanaimo’s current council is confident that actions similar to those taken on May 5 would not be repeated,” the statement read.
Po Lil’ Canucks were/are subjects, whereas Americans are citizens.
Events such as this illustrate why culture is determinative.
And do they treat screaming subhuman headchoppers the same way?
Prayer for the Protection of Religious Liberty
O God our Creator,
from your provident hand we have received
our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
You have called us as your people and given us
the right and the duty to worship you, the only true God,
and your Son, Jesus Christ.
Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit,
you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world,
bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel
to every corner of society.
We ask you to bless us
in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty.
Give us the strength of mind and heart
to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened;
give us courage in making our voices heard
on behalf of the rights of your Church
and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith.
Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father,
a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters
gathered in your Church
in this decisive hour in the history of our nation,
so that, with every trial withstood
and every danger overcome—
for the sake of our children, our grandchildren,
and all who come after us—
this great land will always be "one nation, under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Just wait til the ludicrous Hobby Lobby decision has time to steep. This will begin here in America. And by then, Libtards will control SCOTUS.
Just wait, I am waiting for social security to be denied to Christians because they MIGHT give some to their church. It is really the same principle as not allowing a school voucher to be used at a Christian school.
We REAL Christians ought to be running for office . . . is Hitlery toting her Bible on her book tour?????
If I lived in this town, no joke, I would be driving round to one of these councillors houses with a molotov cocktail in hand
Have they banned Muslims or other religious people, such as Buddhists? If not, this is a clear discrimination case.
I don’t see how this can stand. Christians pay taxes too.
So—take nice holy crap on the courthouse lawn.
You can bet that Muslims are welcomed to host their Jihad Summits there.
Great follow up! Thanks. This update reveals on an even deeper level what self-righteous idiots these people are who parrot PC screed the way Nazis render a salute w/o a thought.
Christians should riot more often. Burn down leftists buildings and stuff.
It is the only way to get them to like us.
Whenever or wherever something like this happens, the targeted portion of the population should immediately sue for 100% refunds of their taxes from the hostile level of government, plus interest and penalties.
Na, then the muslims would be disenfranchised.
That's how the article spelled it:
"Most people think of British Colombia as a beautiful place to vacation."
I must congratulate you on the almost unanimous solidarity of your decision to ban the Chic-Fil-A leadership conference at a city facility! As I will soon be of retirement age, I am investigating various locales in which to retire. I had thought of Vancouver Island because, though not as warm as Panama or the southern US, it is in Canada and I would be covered under the Canada Health Act. Your decision on banning the leadership conference and the comments about christians, has helped me in my decision on where to retire. In fact, your decision assists me in determining where I should vacation during the winter. It gets cold in Calgary during the winter and it is tough to decide if one should vacation in Nanaimo, the BC Interior or in the South. I thank you for the help you afforded me!
Your vote has convinced me not to venture into Nanaimo, neither as a retirement spot, nor a vacation spot, nor to do any business with any organization within the bounds of your small city. After all, being a (hopefully) 'strong' Christian, at least 'strong' in my belief in the truth of the Bible, I would not wish to be a 'criminal' element (as Councillor Kipp describes 'strong' Bible-believing Christians) in your city. (And by the way, Mr. Kipp, the sponsor of the Leadership Conference is called 'Chic-Fil-A' not 'chickfillia'.) If Mr. Kipp did not have access to the name of the company, perhaps he might have been wise enough to find out before speaking. If he has a learning disability affecting his reading skills, and so, could not pronounce the company name properly, I'm sure that BC Health Services could assist him in overcoming his disability. I noted that the well informed Mr. Pattje claims Dr. Henry Cloud to be a psychiatrist, when in fact, he is a psychologist. This is easily verified, even on the internet. Councillors Pattje and Kipp would be wise to review the words of Proverbs 18:13 which states, 'If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame.' Wise words indeed. As the telecast of the council meeting can be seen by anyone with access to the internet, it will surely gain an international audience. There is an old saying that goes something like, It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt. Many members of the City Council and the Mayor would be wise to consider such an aphorism before your next council meeting!
Councillor Pattje, and in fact, all but one City Councillor, demonstrate either a lack of understanding of basic contract law in Canada or, even worse, a disdain for contract law and precedents established as far back as 1877! ANY first year business student is aware of the doctrine of Promissory Estoppel, as established in precedent law in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth countries in Hughes v Metropolitan Railway Co. (No, I am not a lawyer, this is merely 'Contract Law 101' from 1981!) I believe that a citizen has a reasonable expectation that a City Councillor would ensure that any action he or she caused his city to take, would be vetted by the city's Legal Department, to ensure the legality of the action. Council's action opens the City of Nanaimo to large lawsuits that are readibly winnable by any plaintiff. Unfortunately, as councillors, you will not be held responsible for any damages from any law suits stemming from breaking the doctrine of the promissory estoppel, regardless of what the city may have to pay. I hope, for the sake of their pocket books, that citizens remember such unnecessary costs at election time! I won't even get into the many clauses of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms that your decision and your comments contravene!
I thank you for broadcasting your council meetings on an internet broadcasting system, paid for by the citizens of Nanaimo. The coverage afforded to this decision will most certainly travel well beyond the boundaries of the City of Nanaimo. There are perhaps 3 million evangelical Christians (that is the 'strong' Christians, or 'criminal' kind, if you will, Mr. Kipp) and perhaps 5 million other Christians in Canada. In the US, there are at least 30 times as many of each. There are perhaps, 2 million homosexuals in Canada and 20 million in the US. By now, the words and actions of Council are well noted by many. If you are aiming for tourism by homosexuals, you are up against much bigger draws in Canada, like Montreal and Toronto, so don't expect much success with that demographic and don't expect many 'criminal' Christians to visit your city anymore. And yes, the next time I am at the Calgary International Airport, I'll be sure to eat at Chic-Fil-A, thank you very much!
PS: Please don't respond that you issued a form of apology on June 26th. There is an old African proverb that says,A word uttered cannot be taken back. Any apology after the orgy of false statements and innuendo against Christians, is too little and too late. Proverbs 15:2 states 'The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly.' I forgive, but I don't forget. I will be suggesting to friends, to have a look at the May 5, 2014 council meeting, before they head on vacation.
The second clause reads:
2. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:
(a) freedom of conscience and religion;
(b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication;
(c) freedom of peaceful assembly; and
(d) freedom of association.
While it is a good document, there is a huge flaw, in that property rights are not guaranteed.
Like the US, our Constitution is under attack by lawyers who, in general, are very left wing.
Excellent and a well written argument. Too bad the Nanaimo city counsel doesn’t possess the intelligence to digest such logic.
