Hi - I come to you humbly asking for your thoughts and prayers for our daughter. She just went abroad as she starts her Junior year from Gettysburg College and is in Melbourne, Australia. She has been there just over 2 weeks.
Things were going great until she called this morning to say she was in the ER because she hasn't felt well, has had a headache for 2 days, and feels like she has been hit by a truck.
Long story short, she is being treated for a bacterial infection and the hospital is bringing in infectious disease doctors. Her temp was 104. She is on antibiotics and feeling better...but we are so worried.
We live in Baltimore and I feel helpless. She is a great student and has made friends, two of which have stayed with her almost the whole time. The logistics are being handled thru an organization called Arcadia, and they have been tremendous, both in Australia and the US office.
We have a wonderful support system (family and friends) praying for her and have felt their prayers as my husband and I feel so helpless....but I would truly covet and be evergrateful if you feel led to pray for us and our daughter, Christina.
I apologize ahead of time if I can't respond personally....please know I will try. God bless you.
May I ask for prayer?
damn....our love and prayers...
It must be awful to be so far away from your daughter at this time. Prayers for her and your family.
Prayers for your daughter and peace for your family.
thank you so much. *sigh* I was just re-reading her blog
thank you, Mrs. Z. (ha - that’s what people call me sometimes!)
You and your daughter are in my prayers tonight. Be well.
so sorry, prayers going up
Prayers said from here, ZinGirl, for your daughter. I know will be difficult or impossible but try to rest and not worry. I have a Son, Daughter-in-Law, two Grandchildren in Australia and my Daughter-in-Law is a nurse in Australia. The care in Australia is excellent.
Prayers lifted up for your daughter Christina. I cannot imagine being so far from my daughter and feeling so helpless. It sounds as though she is in good hands with her doctors, though.
Prayers for a fast and complete recovery.
Asking God to bless your daughter with healing and you with comfort. In Jesus precious name. Amen.
thank you! both for prayers and the comment about their care...so far, we are very happy and seem to take it very seriously. A sidenote is she also has a bit of a disorder which can mean managing an illness or injury can be tricky....but they seem to be all over it!
Prayers for your daughter.
and thanks for your prayers, Red!
thank goodeness it is Australia and not a third world crap hole
SD- are You still “down under”? And if so anywhere nearby?
I promise they (the Medical Staff) will be. I love my family there and the care I promise is excellent. They (the Medical Staff) will go far beyond the call.
thank you much.
I am so sorry that you are having to go through this. Prayers for your daughter’s prompt and full recovery, and for strength and clarity for those who love her.
If you do not have a passport, you might ask your congressman whether there is an expedited way to get one, just in case you feel a need to travel.
thank you ma and McG.
Prayers up for a fast and full recovery.
wonderful - thank you, mama
thank you, patriot!
Thanks for posting that blog. Your daughter is a sweetheart and I’m praying she will gets well soon
Prayers for Christina and her quick and full recovery.
May this event cause those here and Down Under to seek God through Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. For thine Glory. Amen.
My prayers to you and your daughter. It must be so hard to know your so far away from your daughter. Yet I know that our Lord will be by her side, she is not alone. I pray that she recovers soon so all of you can reunite.
NEMDF - yup. got a passport.
awww...tks. meant to say she’s the one with short dark hair! :)
If it is possible to Face Time with your daughter and her doctors daily so that you can ask questions and see how she is doing it may alleviate your feeling of helplessness.
I'm trying to reply but I know I will miss someone. The response is so touching...and a blessed distraction!
For her healing and your strength.
I enjoyed reading her blog; she’s a good writer! She sounds like a very button down, smart, and fun loving girl. Prayers have been sent and I’m sure she’ll be just fine!
i must say, i got hooked on her blog after the 1st little bit! had to read the entire page. very enjoyable. THANKS for the link!
So far, we're doing OK. The prayers and thoughts from people have really helped...and the assurance that she is getting great care.
Its winter time there...
Has she had a flu shot ???
thanks! She’s a pip. She loves Dave Barry, Jerry Seinfeld, and David Thorne, along with Jim Gaffigan and, of course, RON SWANSON (she actually saw him last fall - he was great!). So THAT’S her inspiration. :)
Welcome, hang in there! Not sure if SkyDancer is still there or in that area. Keep Us updated please.
Probably no flu shot. She has had only the legally-required ones. :P
thank you, ma - I will do my best. After such an exhausting day, I’m kind of biding my time until Australia wakes up and gets to work. :) Hoping by tonight we might have some answers.
thank you, sv - I was just sitting thinking how much better I feel since I started this thread. (I had to doublecheck with husband if it would be a good idea...he was basically, “duh - of course”. I read the prayer threads all the time and it took me all day to think, WAIT...THIS IS WHAT IT’S FOR!) *smack on forehead*
I pray that your daughter recovers quickly and that you will be comforted.
