Have you noticed that the word “lust” is being purged from the Bible?

The Greek word for lust (epithemia) points to inner sin thirty-four times in the New Testament. In the vast majority of these places it has traditionally been properly translated as “lust” or the archaic and more precise word, “concupiscence.”

Not Any More

Unfortunately, modern translations, such as the New International Version (NIV) are abandoning the word lust....

Lust is more than just looking at a woman and wanting to hop in the sack with her. That is just wishful thinking.

I WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN LUST EXCEPT THE LAW SAYS “THOU SHALL NOT COVET.”- St Paul

So Lust is coveting, desiring what you CANNOT HAVE. It can be a neighbors wife, property, a farm or home, a neighbor’s new truck, boat, his gun collection.

Lust eats away at your soul. The desire soon becomes an obsession. Look at what happened to AHAB when he LUSTED for the field of another man but the man would not sell it or trade it to him. Ahab became so sick with desire for the field that he took to his bed, till Jezebel got it for him through foul means.

What do you covet that you absolutely cannot have? That is LUST.

You wouldn’t believe how many legal problems are caused by people thinking they have a right to sex with who they want to have it with

That’s why it’s one of the seven deadly sins - wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony. Each will kill us if we allow it to take over our lives.

The worst is the “NRSV.” Numerous passages are incorrectly translated for political correctness’ sake.

Jezebel used a chicken to get Ahab a whale of a deal?

Sorry, couldn’t resist.

I kind of feel sorry for the younger generation who are
being brought up on nothing but lust.

Lust has its appeal:

This is "Lilian Lust" (Raquel Welch) from the movie 1967 movie Bedazzled.

Even that is more than most that is seen openly today...how can their be lust when it's free?

I saw Miley Cyrus has posed now nude....as if the world hasn't already seen every part of this exhibitionist's body....what a joke..but then society today feeds on being tricked.

The seven deadly sins are old school. They are now virtues: Wrath is now righteousness, greed is now ambition, sloth is now economy, pride is now self esteem, lust is now love, envy is now fairness, and gluttony is now fulfilling needs.

Where have you been? The greatest sin isn’t even on your list— everyone knows intolerance is the only sin that is left in the modern vernacular.

All sin is deadly and will consume us if we let it.

Amazing how when it's repackaged that it becomes acceptable.

That's what happens when Christians accept the world's thinking instead of having their minds transformed and operating in the mind of Christ.

Sounds like the church of the Osteens

THE NIV IS NOT THE ONE YOU SHOULD BE CITING, IT HAS NOT DONE AWAY WITH WORD ‘LUST’.....I use that version...look up ‘lust’ in NIV online and you will find you have erred.

Only four out of thirty four times as a noun and once as a verb, as the article says.

The "seven deadly sins" aren't mentioned in the Bible, but there ARE seven things God hates and/or detests:

There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community. (Prov. 6:16-19)

The Seven Deadly Sins (or Vices) we know today were defined in the 6th century by Pope Gregory the Great, as a set of negative values: the values that you are supposed to adopt is that you will avoid these things and actually adopt their opposites.

It is the nature of man to believe the lies of Satan. The difference is that some of us now see through the eyes of the Spirit. But we are opposed to the spirit of the age. It will soon be as in the time of Noah when every thought of every man was on evil continually. It is already happening in many places.

I don’t know the Osteens, but the same lies inhabit most pulpits today. Churches have become self help programs.

Who needs the Great Physician when you can have a little physician who can make you feel good rather than ask that you admit your own depravity and beg for salvation?

Humility has never been in fashion.

"It is the nature of man to believe the lies of Satan."

Satan is called "The Father Of Lies" but I think the great evil is that Satan doesn't lie - he gets you to lie to yourself.

Hey...they’ve stopped preaching to repent long ago, sinfulness is out, so why bother with lust? Let’s just be happy because God loves us. /sarc
