Pope Francis Will Meet with LGBT Leader During July Visit to Paraguay

Lax enforcement of borders hurts the defenseless in a cruel way that isn't immediately obvious. I know because I have spent 7 years working closely with the Spanish speaking congregation of our church's denomination.

When economic refugees flee their countries, it is the best, brightest, and most aggressively ambitious who leave. It takes considerable effort, financial saving, daring, and planning to get into the U.S. legally or illegally. More often it is the men who flee and leave behind their nuclear and extended families. I personally know several men who now have two wives with children, one here and one in Mexico.

All of this leaves behind many who are defenseless and abandoned and promotes an environment that fosters continuing corruption and exploitation in their country of origin.
