I just read from 9News.com that the Colorado Supreme Court has just ruled against the voucher program in Douglas County School district. While I am disapointed in this ruling, it is technically correct. The Colorado Constitution states in Article IX, section 7:
Aid to private schools, churches, sectarian purpose, forbidden. Neither the general assembly, nor any county, city, town, township, school district or other public corporation, shall ever make any appropriation, or pay from any public fund or moneys whatever, anything in aid of any church or sectarian society, or for any sectarian purpose, or to help support or sustain any school, academy, seminary, college, university or other literary or scientific institution, controlled by any church or sectarian denomination whatsoever; nor shall any grant or donation of land, money or other personal property, ever be made by the state, or any such public corporation to any church, or for any sectarian purpose.
Was the voucher school proposed a religious one, or one that would only accept one race? Those would be considered sectarian, otherwise, it doesn’t apply to the law as I read it.
I thought vouchers went to citizens, not institutions.
Defund the public schools by direct funding, and fund them instead by vouchers held by parents who take them to the schools of their choice. Public or private.
Heaven forbid that the state run school should have to compete with a private school.
That being said, I would not like my tax dollars going to support some madrassa.
If the vouchers were made payable to the taxpayer, then there is no conflict. Otherwise, those on state assistance or pensions, likewise, wouldn’t be able to make payments to their churches for meals or education on the same grounds.
I think the Colorado constitution is in error. Every religion is welcome to apply for vouchers, so it is fair.
P.S. I also do not support “public schools”. It leads to the government taking all the money and controlling such things as who can run a school and how they must run it.
Public schools need to be banned just like the liberals in the schools are trying to ban religion.
As I understand the program, vouchers were given to parents who would then turn them into the schools, who would in turn, cash them in at the State.

The phrase “sectarian conflict” usually refers to violent conflict along religious or political lines such as the conflicts between Nationalists and Unionists in Northern Ireland (religious and class-divisions may play major roles as well). It may also refer to general philosophical, political disparity between different schools of thought such as that between Shia and Sunni Muslims. Non-sectarians espouse that free association and tolerance of different beliefs are the cornerstone to successful peaceful human interaction. They espouse political and religious pluralism.

So in my legal reading they left the barn door open for Alternative educational alternatives as long as they meet the test. So if you stay straight and narrow down a pure educational path then you should be able to be provided for by this
Maybe it is late and the coffee insufficient but I think it is right...
