Is this coming from the “NEW” bible that they put out, it leaves out verses and turns words around, I suggest if you have one, burn it....

The “Biblical flood story” is not a fictional story. It is historical fact. My recommendation is to not mess with God’s Word, as He does not take doing so kindly.

Once, an acquaintance talked me into going to his church — greatest in the world, he claimed. It turned out to be some sort of New Age variety, where EVERYTHING in the Bible was metaphorical, symbolic, i.e. Noah’s flood symbolized some mental, spiritual conflict Noah was going through; the prodigal son in the pigsty meant he had negative emotions (she mentioned those two). Everything was like that, except, at the end of the sermon, or whatever it was, the lady (the preacher) asked for tithes and donations. Guess what, strangely, tithe, to her, meant “tenth of your income”. Suddenly, all the symbolism and metaphors disappeared and she became hardshell and literal.

The pre-flood people lived so long because 1)they were the first descendants of Adam and Eve, who had nearly perfect DNA, 2)the earth was shielded from the suns harmful cosmic rays. Also the “decimal theory” doesn’t hold water because if you look at the ages of Noah’s descendants you sill find that each generation lived fewer and fewer years until their lifespans were no longer than they are today.

Without reading the link as it seems most are just click bait i remember one story that the flood was actually a strait that collapsed, not sure if it was the Bosphorus or Gibralter, may have been the latter as many flooded cities are found in the Mediteranean.

The collapse of the Bosporus flooded a great many towns around, and now below, the Black Sea. Don’t recall the time-frame...5K years ago?

I wasn’t able to connect to the link, so I don’t know what the “decimal theory” is, but in today’s edition of Pookie’s toons, one of Mallard Fillmore’s predictions for 2016 that Donald Trump will attack the decimal system.

I once had a fabulous argument with a Catholic priest who told me the same thing, nothign in the Bible happened, EVERYTHING in the old testament was really just a parable he said. Argument ended with him yelling that I was a demon spawn and making me sit in the hall the rest of the day...Good times :)

That's the problem--"new interpretations." The true interpretations have been handed down from Sinai and no modern critical scholarship is going to tell us anything.

As Rabbi Rotenberg (zt"l) said, history consists entirely of old facts and there is no room for "innovation" of any kind.

The problem with old facts is that even these may not be reliable. I am working on a historical novel taking place in the US in 1799, and even using several detailed sources referring to the events described, am having the following difficulties. Don’t know if the historical villains are who they say they are since there is a distinct difference in ages quoted, don’t know if their purported consorts are the same in the two most detailed accounts. So I have to make a decision as to which version to emphasize. Two thousand years and more ago, you had to rely on oral tradition for a lot of information that might be several hundred years old, then you had to make a decision on which tradition to chose, then you had a Roman emperor tell you to stop arguing and decide on one set of information for everyone, and then you had a political battle between the folks from Constantinople and Alexandria as to which facts would be picked with Constantinople winning. So perhaps there is objective evidence out there on which to base conclusions about whether the correct “facts” were the ones chosen.

Regarding the physical state of the Mediterranean, it appears that before the end of the Ice Age, that sea level was below the entrance to the Med from the Atlantic Ocean at Gibralter. As the sea level rose, water began to flow over this land and tear a channel which became larger and larger the higher the sea rose. There is also evidence that at a later time, the waters of the Med were able to break a barrier and flow into the Black Sea. Here are some views of the history of the Med and sea levels. I was not able to find some of the best ones I have seen earlier, but even these will give you some idea. For example, red areas show that the Adriatic Sea was land, and England was connected to Europe. Will try to find better maps when I return from a meeting.

The “decimal theory” is that the ages of the OT ancients had a decimal missing. For example, Methuselah wasn’t 969 when he died, he was 96.9 years old.

Decimal missing?

Only in English. The Hebrew uses words, not numerals. Read Genesis 5. Enoch sired Methuselah at the age of 6.5?

Daniel Ramsey: "i remember one story that the flood was actually a strait that collapsed, not sure if it was the Bosporus or Gibralter, may have been the latter as many flooded cities are found in the Mediteranean."

  1. Not so likely Gibralter, since that last collapsed 5.3 million years ago.

  2. Could have been the Bosporus straight into the Black Sea, circa 5,600 BC.
Much evidence has been found of ancient village ruins now under many feet of Black Sea water.
However, no other Biblical accounts are located in this area.

  3. So, even more likely was Persian Gulf flooding, as sea levels rose, circa 6,000 BC.
Mesopotamia at the head of -- or now under -- the Persian Gulf seems a reasonable location for both Eden and Noah's flood.
