AMy Welborn writes well.
I don’t pay any attention to this pretender Pope at all.
The real Pope was deposed.
No, he abdicated.
This Pope is a bonehead.
The blog "writer" is also a bonehead:
The storm begin with constant, instant communication.
It do? It begin like that?
Conclusion: Boneheads all around. Class dismissed, let's get pizza and beer.
You don’t have to “Popesplain” when your Pope is not a loudmouth marxist idiot.
My understanding is that the Pope’s words only have official weight when he is speaking Ex Cathedra.
Unless he is issuing a formal statement he’s just another Bishop stating his personal opinion.
Ex Cathedra statements are the Catholic equivalent to a supreme Court decision, and also in the sense that they are carefully worded and usually the result of deliberation and consultation; the Pope giving a personal opinion to the press has no more formal import than any SCOTUS shooting their mouth off, sure you might want to listen closely and carefully, but it’s just another bigwig opining.
I’m afraid that’s my impression of Pope Francis, although I wouldn’t agree that it goes back to John Paul II.
His “humility” strikes me as false humility. Narcissistic humility. His moving out of the papal apartments was stupid. His constant talk is stupid. And he has a terrible habit of appointing heretics to important positions, and demoting faithful bishops.
Or, to sum up, it’s all pretty much:
“LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! I’m, OH, so HUMBLE and KIND and FORGIVING!”
This Pope burps out stupidity like a machine gun.
Is it possible that the current Pope, being from Argentina is merely expressing many of the thoughts of an average Argentine citizen.
A Polish Pope reflected the life’s experiences and emotions, and helped in the falling of the Iron Curtain.
Italiam born and raised Popes have been the same. Italians of birth, language and culture of a European.
I would sort of expect an American born and raised Bishop, elevate to the Papacy to reflect his upbringing.
ALL surely CATHOLIC, yet each having their own personal backgrounds. Just wondering.
I am Catholic. But is this Pope?
My late grandfather-in-law called his Thompson Machine Gun (purchased through the Sears catalog, BTW).
Il Papa. Cause when it speaks, it is the Law!
That pretty much sums this Pope up.
The Pope is human, as was St. Peter, the first Pope. He can have opinions, habits, customs, traits that we don’t agree with. Certainly a Pope should have sufficient wisdom to know what is proper theological speech and which are his own opinions. The Holy Spirit should work through the Cardinals to choose a Pope who will fit the needs of the Church at the time.
Having said that, I do not trust this Pope’s experience or upbringing in statist, corrupt, political, socialist Argentina, to inform him on political knowledge of today.
I’m all for the pizza and beer, humblegunner.
I’m disappointed, though, that you couldn’t find anything juicier to comment on, than a common spell check error.
I figure my opinion that the Pope is a bonehead is sufficiently juicy.
And if homeblogger wants to be taken seriously, he can at least proofread his own material.
Or pay someone to read it. Ha.
I’m surprised that a self-described “papist” posted this article.
This “many of the thoughts of an average Argentine citizen” also hid many of Hitler’s henchmen post-WWII.
The best that I can say for this Pope is that he’s a “liberation theologist”, which is more a matter of training than geography.
Look at the senses of many, if not most, of the African Cardinals. Right now they seem to exhibit a greater trend toward Biblical standards than of those anywhere else on the planet. That would seem inimical to geographical considerations.
Because in Africa, the decision to be Catholic is literally making a decision to put your life at risk.
