We are physical beings: body and soul.

We join ourselves to Christ’s sacrifice of the cross. But neither Christ nor we are purely mental or spiritual beings. So neither is our repentance purely mental or spiritual.

Sure it is...Our bodies can't make a move on its own without the direction of our soul and spirit...And this physical body is only temporary...We will end up with celestial/spiritual bodies...

And no, we do not join ourselves to Christ's sacrifice on the Cross...It is he who suffered FOR us, not with us...

“By my sufferings I fill up what is lacking in the suffering of Christ”.

Paul said this because there truly is something lacking in the suffering of Christ. And that is (I believe) the joining of ourselves to that redemptive suffering. We must take up our cross, and follow Him.

You are misquoting scripture and ascribing a different meaning to the scripture...

Col 1:23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;
Col 1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:

It is pretty clear that Paul is not speaking about any lack of suffering in Jesus, but instead is speaking of afflictions that Jesus endured that Paul lacks in his (Paul's own) body...

Paul rejoices in his suffering but laments that his small amount of suffering is nothing compared to what Jesus Christ suffered...Absolutely nothing about a lack of suffering in Jesus...

One could not possibly read the events of the Crucifixion and come away with the idea that Jesus did not suffer enough, honestly...What suffering could any human suffer that Jesus lacked???

Then you don't need to repent, you don't need to believe, you don't need to pray, you don't need to read Scripture, etc.

You said it, not me.

No, your pope said those things...

I’m disappointed that Msgr Pope did not mention that this very week is an Ember week.

But it isn't an ember week in the Novus Ordo church. I am not surprised that he didn't mention it.

Are you observing it? I am.
