The Diocese of Orlando reprimanded the sixth-grade Blessed Trinity teacher for an unfortunate exhibit of disrespect.
A Blessed Trinity Catholic School religion teacher has been reprimanded by the Diocese of Orlando after he assigned sixth-grade students to read anti-Muslim excerpts from a 164-year-old text authored by Priest Giovanni Bosco, who later became a saint.
Mark Smythe, who teaches religion and social studies at Blessed Trinity, gave students several printouts of Boscos 1853 text that states Prophet Muhammad degrades and dishonors human nature and by placing happiness in sensual pleasures, reduces man to the level of filthy animals. The text also refers to Islam as a monstrous mixture of Judaism, Paganism and Christianity.
The news was first reported Wednesday afternoon by the Huffington Post as part of its Documenting Hate project.
The text also calls the doctrines of the Prophet Muhammad ridiculous, immoral and corrupting, according to The Huffington Post story by Christopher Mathias.
The Diocese of Orlando issued a statement about its decision to reprimand the teacher to the Huffington Post. Diocese officials said they would issue the same written statement to the Star-Banner, but that had not been received by press time.
The Diocese of Orlando officials would not answer questions to discuss details about the exact extent of the punishment.
Jacquelyn Flanigan, an associate superintendent with the Diocese of Orlandos Catholic school system, said in a statement to the Huffington Post that she had spoken with Blessed Trinitys Principal Jason Halstead and Smythe.
Flanigan stated that after speaking with the two men, the school district decided to reprimand the teacher for this unfortunate exhibit of disrespect. Flanigan also said in the statement that the material is also not consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

So St John Bosco is now considered hate speech...
That’ll be when the anti-Christ in place now leaves dies or gets kicked out
I didnt see anything presented that isnt the truth. Whats the problem here?
= = =
The Truth IS becoming the problem.
And THE TRUTH is the answer.
For that I will never forgive.
Exactly so. I attended Episcopal Church when I was younger, and now it worships the High Holy Anus and the Sanctified Rectal Prolapse.
I haven’t studied that horrible incident enough to give a definitive proclamation, but obviously it plays a part in it (along with politics and ethnic conflicts).
So this Bishop has more regard for the slogs at Huffington post than a Catholic saint. Cowardice will be the great shame of the 21st century Church.
When St. John Bosco reprimands the Diocese of Orlando, they’re going to wish they hadn’t reprimanded this teacher.
Don Bosco banned at a Catholic school, no less!
Vatican II. Always Vatican II.
“”Fareeduddin said Profit Mohammad was tolerant and kind and that if schools are going to teach other religions that teachers need to accurately reflect those teachings.”
Who’d-a-thunk-it? Mohammad was a Capitalist?
It's common for Americans to self-flagellate over the internment of Japanese and Japanese-Americans living in the western US mainland during WWII, but there was no policy of killing them.
Hitler is supposed to have said, when launching WWII, "Who now remembers the Armenians?"
Well we can’t have the truth being taught in school. That would slow down our demise...... /sarc
“St. John Bosco now blacklisted.”
At a Catholic school . . . by a Catholic diocese no less.
