Apparently about 1.2 billion who side with Catholicism over Scripture.
Classic non-sequitur. No one would expect you to go to dermatologist if you need brain surgery. Given the choice of seeing a licensed person in interpersonal relationships and who also is married to me has a better understanding of the problems than someone who has never been married. I believe it's a perspective that is deepened if experienced.
Sorry for the delayed reply, I got called away for an extended period.
Two things - if this only refers to a Bishop, then I would say that we are discussing priests. I guess you could say that to become a Bishop you must first become a priest.
Second, I was only rendering my opinion based on what I have personally seen. Whether Scripture indicates marriage is permissible or not for a priest was not my consideration.
You’re trying to turn this into something it’s not.
My opinion is that priests should not marry. And I indicated why not.
Obviously there are those who agree and those who disagree.
Please see #44.
Please refer to #44.
Not sure if I’m answering your question clearly. Maybe because I would have to meditate upon it for a while.
But it seems to me, on the surface at least, that this is saying if a man cannot keep his own house in order, how can he be expected (trusted?) to run the Church properly.
By ‘house’, I assume they mean an abode; domicile, correct? But could it also mean ‘house’ in a metaphorical sense, as in ‘keeping your affairs in order’ (as opposed to a physical house)?
I don’t know the answer. Not at the moment anyway.
Disagree again.
You are now presenting a different argument. You originally said a priest should be married to better understand a married couple’s problems. You did not say that a married couple should go to a licensed marriage counselor.
But again, not all marriage counselors have to be married to be educated, licensed and properly formed to provide advice in their area of expertise. Likewise, priests are trained to do the same. They don’t have to be married to provide spiritual advice on marital problems.
Well the Eastern Rite Catholics allow for married priests. Kid you not.
There is scripture passages reffering to married clergy.
