Lutheran Leader Calls on Theologians to Remove Obstacles to Unity with Catholics

The head of the Lutheran World Federation has called on theologians to remove the obstacles that hinder unity with the Catholic Church.

Rev. Dr. Martin Junge made his remarks in a letter commemorating the 50th anniversary of official Lutheran dialogue with the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.

“Our task as theologians and as pastors should never be to provide explanations as to why unity is not yet possible; our task shall be to creatively and courageously remove the obstacles that still prevent us from the enjoyment of God’s gift of unity,” wrote Junge.

He added, “Decades of ecumenical dialogue, deep encounters in prayer, and passionate joint service to suffering people in the world have brought about trust, mutual understanding, and differentiated consensus in basic issues of faith.”

This is only one world religion crap. It is ok for religions to maintain their differences as long as they respect each other.

It should be more accurately called the Lufauxran World Federation.

There are numerous fundamental differences between Lutheran and Romanist doctrine, the primary one dealing with the doctrine of justification. Lutherans and Romanists use the same word, but define the word differently. Lutherans recognize objective justification; Romanists include infused grace.

Truth is indeed an obstacle.

The obstacles are the doctrinal differences. If Lutherans would only give up justification by faith and see the Pope as God’s head on earth, and start praying to the saints and start believing that Mary remained a virgin after the virgin birth of Jesus and take that troublemaker Luther out of their name, everything would be hunky dory.

“This is only one world religion crap.”

No, it’s just God’s only Church stuff.

“It is ok for religions to maintain their differences as long as they respect each other.”

No, that’s part of a heresy called Indifferentism. Christ did not establish different religions or different Churches. He has ONE bride.

I doubt that this will happen.

Anyone else have a guess?

It should have read:

Our task as theologians and as pastors is to preach, teach and confess our faith; our task shall be to stay faithful to His Word which promises grace through faith and eternity with Him in His paradise.

While desirable, unity without fidelity to scripture, unity without clarity and unity without certainty is merely self-aggrandizing for these pious politicians in vestments and positively harmful to the flock.

All they need to do is when people ask why they're called 'Lutherans' they say:

Oh, we've named ourselves after that great singer Luther Vandross.

>>>No, that’s part of a heresy called Indifferentism. Christ did not establish different religions or different Churches. He has ONE bride.

This is true. However, like Hosea’s prostitute wife, the bride has not always been faithful to the one who gave her His name.

In case of the Roman Church, she has been casting covetous glances towards Aristotle for the last 1,000 years ever since St. Aquinas.

She has been utterly indifferent to the clarity of confession and purity of doctrine and instead focused on an external unity (which doesn’t exist even within her own ranks).

I’ll keep my peace on any only-Rome claims for now.

But I’m pretty sure that you guys don’t want the LWF. You think your current hierarchy is rotten? Just imagine the extra power they’d get from installing even more crazy lefties into positions of power.

It’ll happen. It’s already started, actually, with that release of the “Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification” a few years back that gets both Catholic and Lutheran doctrine wrong, but both sides signed onto it for ‘unity.’

The left-wing orgs in the US have all been glomming together for a long time now, ever since faithful Christians have been leaving them and they have to do so in order to keep the money flowing.

And Pope Frank and those who put him into office are probably thinking the same thing.

The people leading this movement (pun intended) are socialists, and socialists tend to centralize power and crave more of it, not to mention other peoples’ money.

The lefties in the Vatican get an influx of people in positions of power to be used against Catholics who oppose them, and the lefties who claim to be Lutheran get an influx of Other Peoples’ Money.

There was a Lutheran-Catholic Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification that most of the posters here seem unaware of.
