Massive Collapse in Number of Anglicans in Britain, New Survey Shows
Christian Today ^ | 9/4/17 | Ruth Gledhill

The number of Anglicans in Britain has collapsed by 50 per cent in under two decades, according to figures released today.

The latest British Social Attitudes survey’s data on religion show that the number of people in Britain who describe themselves as having no religion at all is also at its highest ever level.

More than half, 53 per cent, of the British public now describe themselves as having ‘no religion’.

This is up from 48 per cent in 2015.

Figures released earlier from the same survey showed that that religious people are becoming more socially liberal on issues like same sex relationships and abortion.

This is in sharp contrast to the Church of England, where the conservative evangelicalism currently in the ascendancy is resolutely committed to an interpretation of the Bible opposed to same-sex marriage.

Theodore Dalrymple mentioned this in a column in the last few days. He said England has stopped counting “None” or “Unknown” as part of he Church of England.

Part and parcel of a world wide trend in many churches where mass apostasy is becoming the norm in what is called the Western World.

The Anglicans aren’t probably the only ones experiencing the squeeze of secularism and modernism.

How many people fear man and powers more than God these days?

Oh, gee, the entire political and media elite trash tenants of Christianity, lift up “multi-culturalism” favoritism for anything NOT foundational British and NOT foundational Christian and there’s some “mystery” to the massive decline of Christian church goers in the U.K.? Actually, no mystery at all.

Seems like every church that goes lib goes into massive decline. May it ever be so. Sola scriptura.

When the LGBT stuff was a cloud no bigger than a man’s hand, an Episcopal sister (All Saints Sisters of the Poor) told me that she felt more in common with some Baptists than with most Episcopalians.

They love Jesus. They believe in personal holiness of life. But — this was back in the mid 70s — Episcopalians seemed to have given all that up for liberal theories of social justice.

I was a newly minted Episcopal priest. She and I both are now in communion with the Holy See.

I'm protestant, and don't know what that means. Would you explain?

The anglican “church” is nothing more than a leftist social club.

Who wants to belong to a “church” whose “morality” are dictated by the fad of the day?

Unfortunately, with the current antichrist as pope, the catholic church is not far behind.

While some Catholics, as some Protestants, are dumb enough to be socialist, not all Catholics are and neither are all Protestants.

unfortunately for Catholics, they are "led" by a single "infallible." Sux to be there now.

Infallibility is used in extremely rare instances, twice in the last 200 years. The pope is there to keep the teachings of the Church and to pass them on intact, everything else he says is just his opinion. Most people are ignoring him right now.
