Only Six Irish Sign Up for the Priesthood - a 222-Year-Record Low
Irish Central ^ | 9/7/17 | James Wilson

A mere six men will be starting the classes required to become a priest at the National Seminary at St. Patrick's College Maynooth in County Kildare this fall – the lowest number in the seminary’s more than two centuries of existence.

Fifteen men, the Irish Catholic reports, are currently undergoing preparatory work that will allow them to become seminarians in the fall of 2018.

Maynooth, which opened in 1795, was once the largest seminary in the world with space for 500 men to train to become priests.

Last year there were only 80 men undergoing the necessary studies at the seminary to become members of the clergy.

The number is likely to have dipped even further this year following something of a crisis last summer when a number of seminarians were caught using the gay hookup app Grindr. As a result, Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin ordered three trainees to leave the seminary and continue their studies at the Irish college in Rome.

"I have my own reasons for doing this," the Archbishop said at the time.

Were the three sent to Rome the only ones that weren’t practicing homosexuals?

follow the original system which the Orthodox use: Priests can be ordained if they marry before. No married Priest can rise to high church office.

it’s the original model of the church and successful.

The enemy is COMPLETELY serious about its War on Western Civ.

We better get really, REALLY clear on that.

Some countries increasing make it difficult to live as an observant Christian. There are many areas in the western world today where you can be either jailed, fired, fined or beaten up just by reading a few passages from the Bible. I’m not talking about preaching and harassing people, I am speaking of simply voicing an opinion that is in your religious doctrine, but suddenly at odds with what is PC.

We can’t keep giggling at how ‘nuts’ they are acting in Britain, because there are several million people in this country right now would think in the same intolerant way.
This may be a big reason why so few men are applying for the priesthood right now.

What internal corruption does:

**Only one priest in the whole of Kerry is under 40 and six of the 53 parishes in the diocese have no resident priest.**

Pray for priests. As well as future seminarians.

It’s a sad business, what’s happening in Ireland. Apparently they need the British Protestants persecuting them. As soon as they won that centuries-long struggle, they started to fall apart.

The Roman Catholic Church accepts married Anglican priests who wish to “hop the fence.” Also the RC church allows its eastern rite branches to ordain married men into the priesthood. So for at least those two reasons, there could be more?, you can find married priests even with children. Plus, pope Francis has advocated allowing married men into the priesthood generally , throughout the RC church. Please nobody flame me; I’m merely Sharing the info as best I can recall - I’m not an advocate. Thanks

As recently as the 90s most of the priests I met in Florida and Louisiana and New Mexico were Irish. The only Irish priests I see now are very old. The Irish Monsignor who built the biggest parish here and presided over it for many years built a set of nice apartments for retired priests as a result the parish has from three to seven priests. In this group one still meets Irishmen. The younger ones are none of them Irish.

It regretfully appears that saint Patrick’s supposed good work has been reversed. Ireland is now apparently going the way of Abortion “rights” ( not yet the law there, thank heaven, but Irish can get abortions very easily nearby anyway and there are demonstrators) -— and homo “marriage” is now the Irish law — and almost no priests in seminary and the green fields are being flooded by the islamonazi invaders and the Irish government has expressed some anti- semitism even. Hey, all those leprechauns have always looked a little swishy, too, haven’t they?? May saint patrick return and repair things soon!? Before the snakes come back! Smile smile smile

No offense, but the Catholic Church isn’t inspiring it’s people. God Himself is ultimately inspirational. Maybe the Catholic Church needs to come to terms with the fact that they aren’t inspiring their young men to become priests.

Beware of any young men who do sign up, there. There is nothing left of seminaries.

The FSSP is all that is left to even function as the
traditional Catholic Church, and its seminary training of old, and literally they presently own the future of the authentic Catholic priesthood. Their seminaries are growing and are the only ones in the USA that are, even under the pressures of being out of favor with the pretenders in Rome.

This is as it should be. A peculiar people. Back to Catholic identity we go, with FSSP, or the abyss.

Not to sidetrack into a different topic, but there is also a new and growing traditional seminary in Virginia (and yes I am aware of the “irregularity”).

USA? No, the diocesan are not overflowing at all. If you heard so, possibly it was an FSSP, or other small religious order, that emphasizes Tradition and Tridentine mass.
