I Never Became Straight. Perhaps That Was Never God’s Goal.
Christianity Today ^ | SEPTEMBER 20, 2017 | RACHEL GILSON

BLUF: That’s why this is not the story of my becoming straight, which has never truly happened and is beside the point. It is the story of my becoming whole, which is happening every day. __

...I met my first girlfriend in an AP European history class. She was a senior, beautiful and popular. Since I excelled in the class, she asked me to come over and help her study. When we met at her house, something was different. Conversation flowed easily, rapidly, unexpectedly. I was struck by her beauty. The attraction felt like what other girls described feeling for a boy.

Over the next week, I began wondering, “Is it okay to feel this way about a girl?”

I began compulsively wondering whether God could exist. Back in my room, I started Googling religious search terms like a middle-schooler searching for pornography. When my roommate entered, I would slam down the laptop lid and pretend I was doing French homework.

I couldn’t tell you what my search terms were. But in that wave of webpages, I started to encounter Jesus for the first time. It’s hard to describe the preconceived notions I would have been carrying; perhaps phrases like “ancient conservative” or “unthinking traditionalist” give something of the flavor. Yet the articles and Scriptures I found gave a decidedly different impression. Again and again, I saw how Jesus noticed, dignified, and served people I would have thrown aside. But I was troubled by a suspicion that my life was against his.

As I labored to convince myself that even then I was forgiven, he brought a man into my life. We had met the summer before on a Christian mission. We were friendly, but I was not attracted to him. He knew all about my past.

She was born straight. Something got screwed up along the way.

I skimmed it. She was born straight. Something got screwed up along the way.

What am I missing? Looks like Jesus helped her.

Very good article. The “old man” our sinful nature will be with us as long as we live. Her same sex attraction is part of that. Praise God a believer has the Holy Spirit to help in this life. Many believers are doing the same thing she did. Many addicts still crave drugs and think about them. Surrender your life to God and He will help you lead a life pleasing to Him.

My guess. A hunk, A type, player of a ski bum...

Which crushed the flowering young lesbian. If my “girlfriend” can switch sides...

+++++++

Then I heard the news: My girlfriend was cheating on me with an undereducated, semi-homeless guy out in Tahoe.

Frankly, she has not arrived yet at being born-again:

II Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

I sense there’s probably deeper issues with this lady, but it certainly doesn’t matter what we can live with. The truth is she has received Jesus who fully accepts her and she is righteous by faith (Rom 4:5) regardless of what others think.

However, the story contrasting Lot and Abraham is a story of two righteous men. Abraham was a victorious righteous man who followed the Lord, and Lot was a defeated righteous man (2 Pet 2:7) who followed the flesh and lost everything including his wife and whose daughters committed incest with him. May have some relevance here.

When God saves us, He truly gives us a “New Birth.”

Whereas before, like in Romans 7 our sins control us, after He saves us, we have no more condemnation (Romans 8:1 - There is therefore no more condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus) and gives us power over our sin (II Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.)

Furthermore, it is not the action of sin that Jesus came to do away with, but the desire, the motivation of sin that LEADS to the sin. Otherwise, Jesus would not have said the following: Mathew 5:28 - But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Slowly, I came to understand that “making me straight” wasn’t the answer. There is no biblical command to be heterosexual.
Yes there is. Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:5, Mark 10:7-8, Ephesians 5:31.
Let’s rewind to the beginning. My parents met at a gay nightclub in San Francisco. My mother just wanted a safe place to dance. My father was the security guard. He abandoned my mother and me after abusing both of us physically. I didn’t even know he existed until I was 10, by which time my mother had remarried.

Growing up, I had no bedtime I can remember. I was allowed to watch horror movies at a young age. When it came to sex, nothing was hidden. There were jokes and stories and, when I was 10, I helped my mother clip images from an adult magazine for a bachelorette party. …
Well, that answers that.

If you want to see something about a guy who did become born again, and whose life changed drastically as a result, try to check out the movie about Steve McQueen’s salvation. It showed last night in many theaters, and I think it’ll run again on October 10.

They play a tape of him a couple weeks before his death and he had a wonderful testimony.

Frankly, she has not arrived yet at being born-again:

Whoa! Salvation does not take away temptation, but does give us strength to overcome.

Some Church of Christ folks and Pentecostals truly believe they no longer sin after being saved.

I’ve talked to many who truly believe that to be the case.

They are lying.

Same sex attraction is a temptation I pity those who have to deal with it.

Fortunately, temptation is not sin but unfortunately, they will struggle all their lives unless God miraculously delivers them.

And He CAN take away those desires, if people repent and ask Him to.

God can and will heal anybody who earnestly asks and as you say repent.

I’ve seen it and heard the testimonials.
He truly is Amazing!

“Yes there is. Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:5, Mark 10:7-8, Ephesians 5:31.”

She’s talking about sexual attraction, not about sexual acts. She is practicing just like in those passages you cited, married to a man, despite her same sex attraction.

I have found that some of the things that help are asking God to remove the desire, and then taking the area in your life that you surrendered to the control of the enemy and asking God to purify and sanctify it and build in it’s place a FORTRESS of the Truth based on His word.

I hesitated to use the word stronghold because of the connotation to the demonic, so I figured a fortress of truth works better.

And I pray it our loud so that it is IMO, more firmly established in the spiritual realm. I think that actually saying the stuff out loud rather than just
thinking it is more effective.
