Court: Probe found over 300 'predator priests' in 6 dioceses (PA)

HARRISBURG, Pa. — A landmark grand jury report identifies more than 300 "predator priests" in six of Pennsylvania's Roman Catholic dioceses, the state Supreme Court said Friday in ordering the findings released. (Tap here to read the court ruling.)

The justices said the report on clergy child sexual abuse going back decades and allegations of cover-up efforts will be made public but without the names or "individual specific information" of priests and others who have challenged the findings, at least in the initial version to be released.

The court wants the redaction process to be completed by Aug. 8, when the 900-page report is expected to be made public. If there are disputes about what a court-appointed special master should black out, the report will go out the following week.

The Supreme Court said it will consider the challenges by some priests and others who say their constitutional rights to their reputations and to due process of law are being violated, based on not being able to address the grand jury.

"We believe that the risk that the grand jury's pronouncements will be seen as carrying the weight of governmental and judicial authority -- and as themselves embodying the voice of the community relative to particular findings -- is substantial," Chief Justice Thomas Saylor wrote.

The Bishop that confirmed my daughter in April took a trip to the border in May to visit the illegals. I wish I could write on his Facebook page but I won't.

How often to the people who are targets of grand juries actually get to address the grand jury? I kind of thought the answer was "never".

“the report on clergy child sexual abuse going back decades and allegations of cover-up efforts will be made public but without the names or ‘individual specific information’ of priests”

We are given access to the names of convicted sex offenders in the neighborhood, but we are never going to see these names because...because they’ll never be prosecuted?

The Church’s response has been to force me, an usher in a Catholic Church, to undergo an enhanced level of background check.

My level of interaction with children is to point to the bathroom and say “over there”.

Stall and deflect.

The rot runs deep in Roman Catholicism’s priests. It’s time for a house cleaning.

Someone told me that when the Catholics "modernized" in the early 1960s, it unintentionally opened the seminaries to the pedophiles. Evidently within the perv circles it was widely known that becoming a Catholic priest was a "dream job" with easy access to young boys.

But although this 300 Pennsylvania priests number is still shocking, it's only the tip of the iceberg. Nationwide it must amount to thousands.

A priest once asked me for my church references in order to be Godfather to a friend’s son. I said I’d be happy to once the church starting policing their own.

Wouldn’t surprise me if true. Priests are not required to be with a woman, they get to play dress-up which homosexuals love to do, and they get unfettered access to boys.

It was a problem before that. My mom knew a cop who was warning Catholic friends about pedo Priests in the 40's and 50's. Back then the Bishop would just go to the Chief of Police, send the Priest somewhere else, and the whole thing would be hushed-up.

A sexual offender is a sexual offender, priest or not.

If they are required to release the names of convicted sexual offenders to the community, they should for all of them, priest or not.

As it is, for all we hear about how the Vatican is addressing the issue, the cover up continues and the perps continue to be protected and defended.

So far as I know the Priests in this report were not convicted. Their names turned up in victim testimony taken by the Grand Jury. Releasing them would appear to be a gray area.

The problem goes back far further in time than I think most Catholics are aware.

And when are the convictions going to happen I wonder?

They certainly should.

IMO, those priests, if they are truly repentant, should go public, make a public confession, defrock themselves, and turn themselves over to public authorities for whatever legal action their crimes demand.

That would show some sincerity in repentance.

Several years ago I lived in a Pa community where you’d see this Priest with a young fellow often at a local pancake house. Being new I asked a friend how come they were always together. I learned the young man was ‘rescued’ by this Priest as a young child which he “groomed” for himself over the years...that everyone in the church knew this but nobody wanted to ‘shake the tree’...

I tend to think there are and have been other congregations who are equally to blame for this abuse of children and the invasion of Homos into their church. They grant the ‘power of the Priesthood’ it was never intended to have and the price of their children has resulted.

The visible ‘stain’ continues....

And what about non-Catholic churches where the numbers are higher. Then think of the schools and family members when sexual abuse is even higher.

When I was Grand Knight of my Knights of Columbus Council, I had to tell men with previously-completed FBI background checks, Top Secret security clearances, that they had to submit to the archdiocese’s screening process.

I took a lot of heat for a lot of guys whose reputations were sterling, verified by extensive personal investigations, and in some cases, polygraph. They found it a bit... insulting. At the time, we noticed the promulgators of the policy weren’t being investigated. I had to quell a riot or two.

Our archbishop was... demon “uncle ted.”
