Rahab The Prostitute
I'll Be Honest ^ | 9/9/15 | Tim Conway

Posted on 12/02/2018 4:04:12 PM PST by OddLane

Why in Hebrews 11 is Rahab singled out for her past sin and called a prostitute? We see here that her background was so sinful that her title has followed her for 3,500 years. This shows us that there is hope for the most defiled among us, and that no matter what title has been attached to your name there is hope for you if you come to Jesus Christ.

There are two types of prostitutes. The physical ones who sell their bodies to men. And the spiritual ones who cavort with the devil and sell their souls to him.

The Great Whore of Babylon is of the second variety.

She was a Canaanite (Gentile). Even more important She was in genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, Matthew 1. Ruth, a Gentile was, also in genealogy of Jesus.

Gentiles were put in the genealogy of the Messiah for a reason.

Yes, the goes over this in his message.

It's really a fascinating inclusion in the Hall of Faith-which I don't think many people take time to consider.

What about Sarah?

Someone included in the Hall of Faith who literally laughed at God in disbelief?

I have come to believe that there are several reasons.

1. Prostitution is hard to stay out of once its established from someone’s life - absent a miraculous healing from God. Unlike the sins of many in scripture it might have taken her a while to leave it completely. She must have persevered and left it for she married Salmon and was the mother of Boaz.

2. The name stuck because she lived in that sin for so long. God still chose her for the lineage of Christ, and that selection was a message to his creation about whom God desires to come to him and the completeness of the forgiveness of sin.

Then He said,

Go and sin NO MORE.

Forgiveness is a beautiful thing.

Tim Conway mentions #2 during his message, and points out the fact that before he came to Christ he was a prolific sinner, and that most of the people he knew at the time probably still look at him that way, despite his being saved and ministering for years after abandoning that life.

Some translations interpret her occupation as “innkeeper” albeit the vast majority “prostitute”

Gosh - maybe they ought to redact the Bible so her reputation doesn’t stay on the low side.....3,500 years is long enough....
