Our Father in Heaven
Hallowed Be Your Name!
Thank You For Revealing Yourself to us through Your Word.
Thank You For Revealing to Us These Adventures of Paul, and
Thank You For The Insights that You Gave Us from these Stories,
So we can be guided by them,
Even to this day.

We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According to Your Will and Promise.
We Pray For the People and Leaders of Israel,
that They Will Look to You for the Protection
and Prosperity of their Nation.
We Also Pray For Revival in our own Beloved USA.

We pray in particular on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Libya and throughout the Mideast. The members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, some of which date from the days of the Apostles, suffer under cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Decades ago, Broadcast Television was very strict about standards of decency. This was not because of any virtue or propriety, although there was an attempt at making us believe that. No, it was all about not offending the SPONSORS. If a sponsor was offended by any of the content, they would simply "pull" their commercial support. Most of the time this was not a problem, as it kept TV reasonably clean and Family-Friendly. There are even cable channels now that show these old programs, and many people enjoy them for either nostalgia or wholesome entertainment to share with the grandchildren. My own sister tunes into "The Waltons" regularly with her grandson, to get him away from Minecraft and Superheroes.

Public Television attempted to attempted to fill the gap with more "adult" entertainment. Even though they had plenty of commercials in the form of Donation Drives, Telethons, Thanking Donors, Announcing Grants from The Government and Corporations, etc, they CLAIMED to be "Commercial Free". All this "Virtue Signaling" took the place of commercials, but somehow people didn't seem to mind, because it meant being able to watch Operas, Plays, Science Programs, and allegedly unbiased News Programs with a sharp left-wing bent. (Even the "P" in "PBS" resembles a face looking leftward...have you noticed that?)

Anyway, most people loved Masterpiece Theater, which came from the UK, and thus was not subject to American Advertisers censoring the content. Sometimes "MT" could get VERY "racy".

One of my favorite MT Series of that time was "I, Claudius", adapted from the book by Robert Graves. It traced the very wicked family of the Roman Emperors from Augustus to Claudius. This was approximately the same period of time encompassed by the New Testament, but the events in the far-flung province of Judea didn't really amount to a hill of beans in the personal lives of the murderous pack of adulterers, predators, torturers, poisoners, pedophiles, and seducers. The story of the four generations of "family" is related by Claudius, who though quite intelligent, stutters and is lame, so is thought to be feeble-minded. It is this misconception that saves his life, because he is not considered a threat. However, Claudius eventually does become Emperor and is mentioned in the book of Acts as expelling Jews from Rome. That's how Paul met Aquila and Priscilla.

Also in the series, we saw how the Emperors embarked on Military Campaigns. When these were not going on, they indulged in building programs to keep the people employed and engaged in some kind of "project".

The ports of Ostia and Putioli near Naples were projects of this sort. Rome was on the Tiber River, but it was not a seaport. Seaports were essential for an Empire, so these projects were very important. The Appian Way, which connected the seaports with Rome, was akin to our own Interstate Highway System that was built during the Eisenhower Administration. One wonders if the Highways of today will be there 2000 years hence, for archaeologists to dig up and argue over. Perhaps, they may posit, these were built by Space Aliens, since 20th Century people were not capable of such feats of engineering!
