The challenge is simply that there are some nations where homosexuality is taboo.
***************
The actual challenge is that the Bible condemns hosexuality. They ignore G-d’s Word at their own risk.
A Great Falling Away.
In my neck of the woods the Methodist church owns ALL BUILDINGS. So if they split who gets what. A church in our area lost everything because they did not agree with the teachings and also where they money was going. Very sad. The head of whatever its called told a church leader he would rather see it turn into a coon hunters barn instead of a church. Sick. . .sick. . . .sick.
If you believe what you like in the gospels, and reject what you don’t like, it is not the gospel you believe, but yourself. Saint Augustine
It’ll all be settled at the Pearly Gates. Make sure you’re on the right side.
I should add that someone is free to deny scripture and do whatever they please, but one cannot be a Christ follower, aka Christian, if they deny Christs teachings.
Besides, we are literally talking a salvation issue here. Telling people its OK to practice homosexuality condemns both the homosexual and the false teacher. Even if one thought scripture isnt entirely clear, why would one risk eternal damnation by claiming a new interpretation and taking a side opposed by 2000 years of Christian thought and practice?
“The church technically forbids same-sex marriage and gays serving in the ministry, but enforcement has been inconsistent.”
To say the least! My Mom attends a UM church - I swear, ANYTHING goes there! She’ll be 82, so I won’t make any waves other than I flat-out refuse to go to church with her.
And she knows my reasons.
I can remember when the Methodist frond on drinking alcohol and dancing.
I recognize the weaselwords, as I'm sure do you. I think it likely that they'll allow each congregation/area to set their own policy. That means it will be optional...until it becomes mandatory.
Perhaps they should be renamed as the Divided Methodist Church...
“In my neck of the woods the Methodist church owns ALL BUILDINGS.”
A lot of the older small town and rural churches have a retention clause in their establishment papers. It used to be in the early days that a land rich person would donate the land for a church and they generally had a clause that if church is discontinued the land goes back to the heirs of the family who donated it. My church has such a clause. If a UMC building has that clause the UMC does not own it. We could pull out and call it “the Church” and not much would change. my great grandfather gave land and helped build the Smith Chapel Methodist Church in TN. (that was before the “united” part was added in 1968.
That these wicked proposals are even on the table at all is a complete loss. The UMC is dead.
Even if the traditional position wins the vote, leftists will never give up and the incessant future attacks will end in death by a thousand cuts.
And let that be a warning to the hotel industry.;-)
Yes. It’s the major topic for the last 2 years.
Went to a contemporary catholic service last month and enjoyed it. Also to a LCMS service and enjoyed it.
IOW, I don’t expect anything good to happen with these plans. The best would be a rule that churches can leave the denomination. That’s possible.
The act of homosexuality doesn’t fit the pattern God gave to teach about the covenant relation between God and the Church - that intimate relationship ultimately produces the Kingdom.
The Kingdom was the ‘child’ born out of the ‘marriage’ between God (’the man’) and the Church (’the woman’).
How do you get a kingdom born between two men or two women? Answer: You don’t.
The church (or the City of Enoch) was the woman in the Book of Revelation, the awaiting Bride with her foolish virgins in Matthew, the reason why God said ‘I am married to you’ in Jeremiah:
Jeremiah 3:14 Turn, O backsliding children, saith the Lord; for I am married unto you; and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion;
Marriage, between a man and a woman, is to teach us here on earth about God and His relationship to the church, and that we are to act out our lives in understanding of this relationship.
How dare you inject Biblical Fellowship into a humanist fellowship debate!

Our local United Methodist outlet has a RAINBOW on its sign in the front—just like the area ELCA outlets and at least one synagogue!!!!
But one of the ELCA establishments (which was once pretty conservative) recently added a second, much larger rainbow! Apparently, the original rainbow wasn’t large or prominent enough!!!!
PHOOEY!!!!
“Telling people its OK to practice homosexuality condemns both the homosexual and the false teacher. “
That not the only thing. They are teaching that you are not allowed to disagree and if Scripture disagrees with them, that Scripture has to be shunned. That’s why I left. I no longer felt comfortable being true to myself (a conservative who was born this way) and they were too intolerant to embrace change. If you disagreed, they considered you bad.
The UMC has to avoid a large amount of Scripture these days.
I’m glad your family had the foresight to do that. The little country church that lost it all was over 100 years old, built, and remodeled by its members. It was so sad. I attended an event there. . .nice little church.
Our local Methodist pastor who is a she (not that it matters) just married two women. The one has 3 children and the boys are wearing makeup to school.
That it becomes an official “issue” in the first place means it’s only a matter of time.
