Ex-president says institution prizes the clerical male above women, truth, and abused children
The “game is almost up” for the all-male Catholic Church, former president Mary McAleese has said.
She said the church’s “clericalised citadel is increasingly of zero interest to many Christian women who grow up in the Catholic tradition”.
“The church prizes the clerical male above all others in the church. Above women, above truth and disgracefully above clerically abused children. The game is almost up,” she said.
Mrs McAleese was speaking after an announcement by theologian Mary T Malone (80) that she is leaving the “men’s church” to become “a member of women’s Christianity, a loose association of women’s groups who celebrate their Christian faith outside the Catholic Church”.
A nun for 17 years before she married her late husband, Ms Malone retired back to Ireland in 1997 after teaching theology for almost 40 years in Canada.
Living in Wexford, she is the author of a trilogy on Women and Christianity (2000, 2001, 2003); Praying with the Women Mystics (2006); and The Elephant in the Church: A Woman’s Tract for Our Times (2014).
A revised edition of the latter book was republished in Dublin last Friday to mark International Women’s Day.

These people worship Mary up and down the block. These women aint going anywhere. Let em try islam or mormonism. Or any other faith out there, none treat women better.
Be honest and just be open you dont like the bible where it says men are the officeholders of the church. How about letting non homos become priests, there is no biblical requirement any church leaders have to remain celibate and unmarried.
Excellent point. In a free society one can form a business or a new church. Heck in my town of 8,000, there are a good number of Baptist Churches. People are free to choose. Choose a denomination where women can become ministers or pastors.

just out of curiosity, how many female teachers have been caught in compromising situations with children?
so, claiming it’s males that are the problem, is a problem itself Because it avoids the problem of a society that encourages ‘anything goes’. Gay priests, lesbian nuns, promiscuous teachers, none of which can counsel youth not to be gay or lesbian or promiscuous. That’s the problem.
I don’t think politicians, especially the fallen of a faith have any business telling a church/religion how to conduct themselves. I also believe that those that preach should tend to their flocks and not politics.

The Catholic Church in 2019 is roughly analogous to Russia in 1917, i.e., in total chaos. Revolutionaries at the helm. Even more radical revolutionaries waiting in the wings. The old guard nobility and middle-class confused, divided and overwhelmed. Adiuva nos Deus.
Don’t let intentionally sinful folks get you down. Jesus didn’t with his chosen apostle, it’s truly free will to love Jesus. Irish sin. Italians, catholic priests....sad, stand up to it, be proud that Jesus sufferred for your redemption and for so many others Irish that repentfully choose Hom. The numbers are far fewer now but praise God for each one and that you are one of them!
