God said, "Go forth and multiply".

He did NOT caution, "but not too much".

The job of the Pope is to spread the Gospel and maintain the faith.

Pretending that God's creation is so fragile that it requires our intervention is just a bit much.

[[Schnellnhuber has stated that the world is currently overpopulated by six billion people.]]

BS- the world isn’t anywhere near overpopulated- not even close- to put into perspective how LITTLE space humans take up, every single person could fit into texas with room to spare- and NO, not living in high rises either- Not that they could live comfortably, but this is just to show how little space humans take up compared to how much space the earth has-

People like Schnellenhuber point to overcrowded city slums and claim the whole world is ‘overpopulated’- Again, the world isn’t anywhere near overpopulated! he should be ashamed of himself for trying to deceive the world!

They want to kill six billion people. The last two Avengers movies have away the plot: kill at least half the population.

“In the part of Texas I came from...”

If you put every person into Texas, each would have about 1,000 sq. feet of land. (And the rest of the world would, of course, be empty.)

Some guy wrote a book about freedom and capitalism. As freedom and capitalism has expanded over the last 50 years, the world poverty rate has gone from something like 80% living in poverty to 10% living in poverty.

We don’t need fewer people - we need more freedom.

Thomas Sowell?

But onto a different subject. I believe it would be possible to have a US that used no fossil fuels. This would be a country that would no longer be the worlds superpower (either a bonus or the goal of those who advocate for this), and the poverty rate would be much higher. This would require an economy where there would be a GDP per person similar to that of the 1850s in the US, or Eastern Europe in the 1920s

Understanding that there is no way to significantly expand electricity production beyond current hydropower production, transport would be wood fired boilers and sails for longer transport, animal hauled for shorter ranges. I am assuming that there would still be a way to produce lubricants and pnumatic tires.

Needless to say there would be a massive increase in poverty, as most of the population would have to become rural poor. Farming would have to revert back to semi-subsistance for the bulk of production. This would be farms that use most of the production simply to support themselves, 50% or more of the land would be for feeding the draft animals, most of the rest would be feeding and clothing the farm family.

You could still have rail roads and trucks, but capacities would be greatly reduced from today as they would need to be wood fired steam engines. All the water fuel and boiler would take up a large fraction of the capacity for a truck (along with for practical purposes tying them to a route with guaranteed water supplies). Trains would be limited or practical purposes to the size which a hand stoked cordwood fire firebox could produce enough steam to pull.

Surprise surprise for the greenies, electricity would be mostly used for industry in the cities.

Looks like the Catholic Church has been usurped by community organizers....

You know Madagascar? That little chip of the lower-right part of Africa? The entire world population could live in Madagascar, reserve most of it for wildlife and still less than the population density of the wealthiest suburb of Paris. Environmental sustainability is only a matter of economic progress.

The climate seems quite nice, by the way. Most of the island is a high plateau, so whereas the near-tropical climate keeps a relatively constant year-round temperature, that year-round temperature isn’t terribly hot. The hottest month is December, when the average daily high is 81 degrees.

And with just .0001% of the land devoted to extracting granite, the average person’s home, workplace, and water management could use up 2100 square feet of granite.
