Thanks, but I still think you’re trying to stick a Western, current-day interpretation on the passage.
I certainly don’t see any reason to presume that the Whore of Babylon is Israel, since she controls the beast. She’s more likely some sort of supra-national entity. Like the U.N., or the European Union, or the Soviet Union, or the Arab League, but far more likely something that has not yet emerged. And probably something headquartered in the actual city of Rome (as opposed to “Rome,” as Protestants and Americans incorrectly identify the Vatican; it’s sorta like calling the Pentagon, “Washington,” even though its in Virginia). (The EU was once identifiable with the Treaty of Rome, but now has far too many nations and no longer can be identified with Rome.)
Now I understand thanks!
And I've also toyed with the idea that the whore of Babylon is modern day Iraq, since it's the descendent of Babylon and also there was a brief time it was the major economic power in the area. But that's just a minor theory of mine. I think it's best to think that Babylon represents a major power like what the Babylonian empire was to Israel's history, not the descendants of the Chaldeans. (Though to be honest there are many times in the Bible where a people group is often defined in tribal terms by their ancestry. So I haven't completely dissed the idea that Babylon in Revelation is Iraq.)
Well I’ve lived in Babylon, Iraq and I can tell you no whores were found.
