Charlie?......................
The very idea that one of the Premier Catholic televangelists would be smeared long after his death is appalling.
My family’s Faith grew as we watched the Good Archbishop swirl his cloak to and from his blackboard to explain the wonders of our spiritual heritage
DC has it’s SWAMP
We Catholics have our PIG STY.
BOTH seem to need a big Spring Cleaning
I’m VERY close to wondering along with Peter, “Lord, to whom else shall we go?”
I thought this was going to be a thread bashing Charlie Sheen.
I felt sorry for what Charlie did to his career until he raved against Trump.
“Charlie?......................”
that was my first thought ...
For those of you mentioning Charlie Sheen there is actaully a connection. His father Martin Sheen took his stage surname from Fulton Sheen.
The character “Sheen” from Jimmy Neutron, his last name is actually “Estevez”, which is Martin Sheen’s real last name.
His old shows are on YouTube. He was pretty darn fabulous. He designed his own outfit.
I don't think he should be smeared for anything 60 years later.
“thought this was going to be a thread bashing Charlie Sheen.”
I think his father took the stage name Sheen based on Fulton Sheen.
Anything is possible, of course, and I did not know him.
I don’t believe it, though.
At any event, his TV teachings were often of exceptional value ... to many Catholic and non-Catholic alike.
I am saddened that any apparently very good person gets his name smeared, and especially years after his death so that he can’t even respond.
We have a big problem with a lot of very, very stale allegations being hurled against people ... 20, 30, 50 years after something supposedly happened. This is grossly unfair at its core, and its causing a lot of pain and suffering. There are “statutes of limitations” requiring most kinds of claims to be brought forward within a reasonable time so that they can be fairly and properly adjudicated (witnesses still available and with reasonably decent memories of events, any documents still in existence, etc.). But when it comes to allegations within the church or any other community of faith? There’s apparently no limit on just how long a claimant can sit on his/her arse and keep silent... before absolutely ruining other people’s reputations and, often, the rest of their lives.
I, for one, prefer to remember Sheen for the very positive and uplifting, encouraging way he spoke with us on the TV, even tho that was 40 some years ago?
I, for one, am totally uninterested in hearing any such charges against him..at this late, late, very late date and so long after his passing.
Just Moi. My comments are worth what you paid for them, smile smile
This is no surprise. There is no way the current power structure advances Sheen toward sainthood.
God will take care of this. When Bishop Sheen was still alive, there were those in the Church back then that felt he was growing too powerful and could counter the pope and the vatican. Apparently, a remnant of that resistance is still alive in the Church. Bishop Sheen was a good man and will ultimately be recognized for who and what he was by the Church. I am not surprised that a Jesuit pope would bite on this resistance. If he were a man of God, he would not be snowed by Cupich and his pals. Among people not tarnished by this nonsense, there are those who know who Bishop Sheen was and will be praying that this silliness does not continue.
So many skulls waiting to help pave that road to Hell.
According to the New Testament, believers are saints already. Upstairs, HE confirms that, not this corrupt process.
I’m not Catholic but my voice instructor is very active in the Peoria diocese music program and will be directing the choir at this ceremony. He recruited me to join them. I felt very honored. Now we’re getting jerked around. He’s livid about it.
I used to watch his show as a kid and enjoyed it. I have seen reruns recently on a catholic religious channel and was amazed how well his shows stand the test of time.
My is that it is pure jealousy and that his shows and their teachings are still relevant today as they were over 60 years ago.
Bishop Sheen was an honorable man that I still have great respect for, shame on these Cardinals.
Archbishop Sheen was a very, very vocal opponent of communism. Most of his TV shows dealt with explaining why. He was also very orthodox and I believe I read that he had many doubts about the direction Vatican II was going. I was really actually shocked when his cause for beatification moved forward. The Dolan thing with not releasing the body to Peoria was petty. Who knows why ...
Bottom line: traditional + anti-communist = Archbishop Bad.
Yes, thanks.
“He adopted his stage name, Martin Sheen, from a combination of the CBS casting director, Robert Dale Martin, who gave him his first big break, and the televangelist archbishop, Fulton J. Sheen.[16] In a 2003 Inside the Actors Studio interview, Sheen explained,”
