Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Music in The Bible)

Psalm 81

Psalm 81[a]

For the director of music. According to gittith.[b] Of Asaph.

1 Sing for joy to God our strength;
    shout aloud to the God of Jacob!
2 Begin the music, strike the timbrel,
    play the melodious harp and lyre.
3 Sound the ram’s horn at the New Moon,
    and when the moon is full, on the day of our festival;
4 this is a decree for Israel,
    an ordinance of the God of Jacob.
5 When God went out against Egypt,
    he established it as a statute for Joseph.

I heard an unknown voice say:

6 “I removed the burden from their shoulders;
    their hands were set free from the basket.
7 In your distress you called and I rescued you,
    I answered you out of a thundercloud;
    I tested you at the waters of Meribah.[c]
8 Hear me, my people, and I will warn you—
    if you would only listen to me, Israel!
9 You shall have no foreign god among you;
    you shall not worship any god other than me.
10 I am the Lord your God,
    who brought you up out of Egypt.
Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.

11 “But my people would not listen to me;
    Israel would not submit to me.
12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts
    to follow their own devices.

13 “If my people would only listen to me,
    if Israel would only follow my ways,
14 how quickly I would subdue their enemies
    and turn my hand against their foes!
15 Those who hate the Lord would cringe before him,
    and their punishment would last forever.
16 But you would be fed with the finest of wheat;
    with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”

Footnotes:

1. Psalm 81:1 In Hebrew texts 81:1-16 is numbered 81:2-17.
2. Psalm 81:1 Title: Probably a musical term
3. Psalm 81:7 The Hebrew has Selah (a word of uncertain meaning) here.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent Is Your Name Over All The Earth!
The Earth is Yours,
and The Fullness Thereof,
You Have Created It,
and All It Contains.
It Is You,
The Eternal,
Omnipotent,
Omniscient,
Omnipresent,
THE GREAT I AM
Who Created All Out Of Nothingness,
From The Quantum Level
to the Supermassive Singularities
in An Endless Field of Stars!

1. Sing aloud to God our strength;
Make a joyful shout to the God of Jacob.
2. Raise a song and strike the timbrel,
The pleasant harp with the lute.

And yet, You Are Also The SAME,
Yesterday, Today, and Forever,
and You Knew Me When You Knit Me Together
In the Secret Places,
In My Mother's Womb.

Oh LORD!
You Have Given Us Times and Seasons,
Feasts and Remembrances,
Springtime and Harvest,
And The Very Heavens To Remind us of Your Glory!
Let us Not Forget That YOU Are The Author and Finisher of it All.

For the Sake of Your Anointed,
and For The Sake of Your Name,
We pray for the Peace of Jerusalem,
For Israel,
According to Your Word,
and Your Promise.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Starting in October, the stores and media are already displaying Christmas merchandise and playing Christmas music. Usually the music is in the "Jingle Bells Genre", but this year I noticed something different. Along with the incredible increase in Christmas Light Displays (both public and private) there was a proliferation this year of Nativity Scenes, Angels, Stars, Choirboys, Candles, and other religious images. People were not afraid to say "Merry Christmas", and the topper was when I heard the Pavarotti version of "Oh Holy Night" being played over a loudspeaker in The Dollar Tree. I kid you not. I will not go so far as to say America has gotten more "religious", but I really believe that the current President (who is not afraid to say what is on his mind) has emboldened People of Faith to express themselves whether the Left likes it or not. Just my opinion. Yours may differ!

Psalm 81 is a "Festival Song". A song of Asaph, it was probably sung at the opening to one or more of the Mandatory Feast Days as commanded in the Torah. It is a joyous Psalm commemorating God's Mighty Work of Salvation. It is symmetrical, shows plenty of contrasts, and emphasizes the Musical Worship of God, with tambourine, harp, lyre, ram's horns, and singing.

God tells the People: "Open your mouth, and I will fill it." Here He may mean actual food, but He could also mean His Holy Word, Spirit-Inspired Prayer, and Praise. God gives us these instructions:

1. Open your mouth
2. Listen
3. Follow My Way

And here is the Action of God in response:

1. He will feed us
2. He will Fill us
3. He will Satisfy us.

"Honey from The Rock" is an amazing metaphor. Could there ever be such a miracle? Water from a rock is miraculous enough, but HONEY? That's about as incongruous as Pavarotti singing "Oh Holy Night" at The Dollar Tree!

Honey from the Rock at the end of today’s Scripture reminded me of the song “Honey in the Rock” that my Grandpa over 60 years ago would sing when we sat on the old tractor with him as he plowed the fields. Had not heard the song in its entirety. . .so glad your post jogged my memory.

Amen.

I once heard an explanation of the scripture, “Open your mouth, and I will fill it.” The teacher said that the Hebrew indicates that this action can be likened to a baby bird opening its mouth for food. The baby has complete trust that as the mouth is opened, it will be filled.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

ING aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.

2 Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.

3 Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.
4 For this was a statute for Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob.

5 This he ordained in Joseph for a testimony, when he went out through the land of Egypt: where I heard a language that I understood not.

6 I removed his shoulder from the burden: his hands were delivered from the pots.

7 Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.

8 Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken unto me;

9 There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god.

10 I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

11 But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.

12 So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own counsels.

13 Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways!

14 I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries.

15 The haters of the LORD should have submitted themselves unto him: but their time should have endured for ever.

16 He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.
