The beauty of the Orthodox structure...the Russian patriarch has no power over other Orthodox congregations/patriarchs...as opposed to the Pope you criticize so much.

For my part, I hardly fit the stereotype of the “embittered lapsed Catholic.” I’ve just found that sola fide, sola scriptura makes are lot more sense than the Roman amalgam of scripture, church tradition, and ex cathedra dictates.

So are you protestant or orthodox? Have you made up your mind yet?

Has someone gone there and come back with proof?

LOL! The comments at that site are priceless!

You don’t understand anything “scientific!”

But keep up the charade. It keeps us laughing!

One sin at all and you go to hell.

It's only when you are forgiven by God through the atoning work of Christ, that your sin is forgiven and the debt of sin that stands against you is wiped clean. It no longer exists.

Colossians 2:13-15 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.

The comments after the story pretty much sum up what many of us feel about this stuff.

No, you've got it wrong again. It's just one mortal sin.

Will any of you protestants step up an answer the simple question:

What Hell did Jesus Christ descend to on Good Friday?

So far, it's been nothing but crickets.

Is there NO punishment except eternity in hell? Sounds too harsh for our loving God.

But our sins were punished.

Jesus took them and was punished for them.

That's what the cross is all about; Jesus taking the punishment for the sins of the world on Himself enduring the wrath of God against that sin, for us, in our place.

And after making payment for that sin by taking the punishment for it, He then turns around and offers it as a free gift to those who would receive it simply by believing; through faith as it were.

[[contradicts any notion of a just and merciful Heavenly Father.]]

Really? I believe Christ Dying on the Cross proves God is a just and merciful God

[[Would a just and merciful God condemn me]]

God doesn’t condemn us- We condemn ourselves by rejecting our Creator-

This site sums it up well:

The early church taught that Jesus descended into Hades. The Old Roman form of the Apostles’ Creed (about A.D. 140) did not have the phrase, “He descended into Hell”, and it did not appear in the Nicene Creed (A.D. 325). It seems to have been a late addition (perhaps around A.D. 390). The phrase first appeared in the Creed of Aquileia, (4th century, in the Latin words descendit in inferna - descended into Hades). In addition, the Athanasian Creed, which does contain the phrase, may not have been written until the time of Charlemagne (8th century).

https://www.allaboutjesuschrist.org/did-jesus-go-to-hell-faq.htm

From the Catholic bible:

Rev 20:14 - Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire;

Hell is not thrown into Hell. Hades is not Hell.

The Catholic church perverted the original Apostle’s Creed and the Nicene Creed, not unlike what perversions your pope is happy to invoke. That site describes this in more detail.

The Catholic church is a sham religion. It basically has always been so.

Thank you for bringing this up.

So you seem to be implying that if Hades is not Hell, it must be Purgatory?

Thanks.

Let’s take a more Orthodox view.
Free will is a great gift given mankind that is not removed from us after death.
If we have been true and faithful Christians then our reward is Heaven.
The blood of Christ has cleaned us from sin, very much as the Protestants say.
Here is the main question. What keeps us from sinning in the kingdom of Heaven?
A pious belief, but not one required for salvation is an acceptance of Toll Houses (no chocolate chips here though)
These Toll Houses purge the desire to sin.
We are clean by the blood of Christ. We retain free will. We no longer desire sin.

Unless he wants to post something negative in a Catholic caucus. I’ve had the same argument applied to me.

Why do protestants reject the Catholic Church established by Jesus and the authority granted to His Church and instead follow the teachings of man protesting against His teachings?

Christ made the perfect sacrifice to restore man to Heaven, yet each of us has to accept salvation through Baptism and His Catholic faith and by keeping His commandments.

I realize many have been indoctrinated against the Catholic faith by false teachers and false teachings.

Seek God’s Truth. The Catholic faith is for sinners and all are welcome.

Everyone should welcome the mercy of God to have Purgatory to purify us of venial (minor) sins to be worthy to enter Heaven. Why would God allow sin to enter Heaven?
