Romans 13 and revolution: Does St. Paul's Admonition to Submit to Government mean that the Signers of the Declaration of Independence were going against the Word of God?

For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil.

Would it not be reasonable to say that one (perhaps the only) justification for revolt is when the rulers one has become the reverse of what that verse states -- a cause of fear for good behavior, rather than for evil.

We take a giant step in that direction next week, I fear.

I agree. Arguably, a government that punishes good and supports evil is no longer instituted by God, but against Him. And we then have no requirement to obey it.
