Maybe this is why the powerful politicians in DC who are Catholics don’t seen to worry about backing policies like abortion on demand. No matter what I do, as I am dying a priest will wave his hands over me and I’ll go straight to Heaven or at worst, I’ll end up in Purgatory and work my way there.

If that's the way they think, then they've got it wrong.

Purgatory, by default, says that the blood of Jesus is not enough to forgive and cleanse us from sin.

Well, you could avoid Purgatory by doing works of supererogation in this life that would earn the title of Saint from the Magisterium, and thus enter Heaven directly without a waiting period. Eh?

I see, so if Stalin and Hitler confessed their Sins they would be forgiven entirely with no punishment?

I think for some purgatory serves a useful purpose. Debating Theology. can get very tricky.

So exactly how many Angels can dance on the head of a Pin?????

Of course not. That wasn’t the point.

I hate to say it, but many Catholics practice Catholicism as a “cult”. (some do not)

Just look at your heretic pope, all your pedophile priests. How can any non cult person put up with that?

Catholicism is a “religion”. Stand up, sit down. kneel, cross yourself (with or without holy water (maybe blessed by a pedophile priest), worship Mary more than Jesus. Base your religion on your own book (catechism) instead of His book (The Word of God).

I have a “FAITH” not a religion. I don’t need a “priest” I have Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I don’t need a cathedral I have His creation. I don’t need a priest, pastor, minister, to interpret the bible for me, I CAN READ! (the Holy Spirit helps me understand).

What is your priest wearing under that robe?

Remember, don’t flame me. I don’t read responses and I don’t care what you think.

You make a good point with regard to repentence.

I’m LCMS. We are taught “against” purgatory and similar, but we are also taught confession with sincere repentence.

Private and Subjective interpretation of the Bible has been going on for over 2000 years.

Of course we’re called to repent of our sins. Over and over the importance of forsaking sin is addressed. Whether we truly believe or not—God knows our heart.

I just read Matt 18:21-35 and there is NOTHING about this fictitious “purgatory in it.

Which is not the homosexual infested, pedophile protecting, cocaine fueled orgies in the Vatican religion based in Rome.

Let’s not forget the millions upon millions of mostly Protestants who were TORTURED and MURDERED or otherwise caused to lose their lives, BY THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.

Oh, snap, that’s one of the criteria of the Antichrist power in the bible...persecuting the saints. But wait, he/it doesn’t show up until the last 7 years, right?

And Protestants have murdered and tortured their own and Catholics too....so what is your point?

Sins of the clergy does not change the theology of Protestants any more than it does Catholics...so what is your point?

I’m LCMS. We are taught “against” purgatory...

Who am I to say what purgatory is for, but if not to purgatory, where did all those who died go before Christ opened the gates of Heaven?

You are picking a fight with a strawman argument.
Jesus is emphatic in telling us that those who persevere will inherit the Kingdom of God. As does St. Paul.
Neither never says, Once saved, always saved.
People can, and do, sin even after Baptism.
And, no one who is unclean from sin can enter into the Kingdom.
If you die with sin staining your soul, in your view you are doomed. And most people DO die with sin staining their soul.
Please don’t judge people so harshly. Peace

“If we do not,” then one must consider deeply whether or not one belongs to Jesus.

One who feels no need to repent is not going to “consider deeply” as he is supposedly assured of salvation.
