What is at question is not salvation - but rewards. Salvation is secured by our faith in Christ’s finished work on the cross, His shed blood and His being our righteousness (no, I’ll never have any of my own - He alone is my righteousness, and I am clothed in Him.) As He is my worthiness - I have no other - my salvation is indeed sealed.

What so many believers do not understand is that the believer’s judgment is over what we have let Him do through us in this life. Most works done “for the Lord” will be burned up - they were for self, for here and now, before men. See I Corin.3:11 - 15.

Rewards will be given to all who let Him live through them by the Holy Spirit. They will be for what God is allowed to do through us - not what we do for Him. Many hidden, unknown saints will receive great rewards. Many prominent, well-known, big-name Christians will receive little. Because He looks at the heart - not outward actions. Many who travail in prayer, hidden in their closets, will receive great rewards. Eternal ones.

I believe that rewards will also be given for character - those who let His character shine through them: holiness, humility, meekness, lowliness, dependence on Him in everything, a grateful and worshipful heart content in all situations, loving others (especially the lowly & unlovable), putting others before self - and much more. See Galatians 5:22 for the fruit of the Spirit.

Our longing should be to both see His face and to hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant....”
