Blah blah blah blah …

No.

Here’s the catechism. Based on scripture, whatever FR catholic haters like to say

Obey the law.
If a civil law violates God’s law, then we must disobey it. “The citizen is obliged in conscience not to follow the directives of civil authorities when they are contrary to the demands of the moral order, to the fundamental rights of persons or the teachings of the Gospel,” says the Catechism (#2242).Nov

Slavery was commonplace in ancient times—still is today in parts of the world. The difference with the Israelites is that most slaves went into servitude voluntarily, and even if bought were to be released after six years, iunless they chose to stay with their masters.

God was dealing with an ignorant and backward people, not modern society. Don’t judge the past by the standards of today. That’s what the left does.

And no, I don’t believe in Slavery, and i don’t think God does either, but therre’s no way, especially before Christ’s time, that Man was going to change overnight. But God sl;owly and surely led the way, teaching him Justice and Mercy, and the difference between the two.

RE: One, that is just the opinion of Paul, not the words of Jesus.

I’m trying to understand this — You believe that what St. Paul and St. Peter BOTH wrote in their epistle to the churches are NOT Inspired by the Holy Spirit, nd are mere human opinions?

Leader arose repeatedly in Israel to rebel Against leaders that rebel against then naturally law of God and turn to evil... this was not done lightly

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.-

RE: Probably Parliment.

Precisely. Therefore at the time of the revolution, the British Government was the authority.

“Submit to governing authorities”

In biblical context, this is specifically referring to governments and authorities sanctioned by God who govern by the rules God lays out in his written word and pass laws consistent with his word and his will. I doubt this pertains to a whole lot of governments that exist today.

It’s not in Jesus words red letters. And he was probably speaking about Rome or some local governor. if Paul thinks God put Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Or Kim Jong Un in power over people and they have a duty to obey them... then Paul is flat ass wrong. And I have that on the highest possible authority.

It is why they enumerated the reasons for their revolt

Romans 13:1-7

The tyrant’s favorite verses. The only one they care about.

Are you of the opinion that a slave was sinning by running away to Canada?

Guess it depends on your definition of slaves:

Exodus 21 :: NIV. "If you buy a Hebrew servant, he is to serve you for six years. But in the seventh year, he shall go free, without paying anything. If he comes alone, he is to go free alone; but if he has a wife when he comes, she is to go with him.

RE: It’s not in Jesus words red letters.

This statement assumes that Paul’s epistles were not inspired by Christ’s Holy Spirit and therefore did not meet Christ’s stamp of approval. I’m not sure I agree with this.

RE: And he was probably speaking about Rome or some local governor.

Not probably, DEFINITELY. St. Peter said the same thing as St. Paul and the former actually REFERRED to the Emperor ( in this case, Nero ) and local governors.

RE: if Paul thinks God put Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Or Kim Jong Un in power over people and they have a duty to obey them... then Paul is flat ass wrong.

Of course. But was genocide actually what Paul have in mind when he wrote these verses about submission to authority? IT MOST DEFINITELY ISN’T.

“One, that is just the opinion of Paul, not the words of Jesus.”

Or more likely, Paul’s words got altered sometime around the time of the Tudor dynasty and translated in a way to suggest that any laws and authority created by the ruling monarchy are from God and not to be questioned.

Anyone calling the Revolution and Founders sinful is a dumbass. And besides, it would be a minor sin. One fully covered by being redeemed.

Not a biggie.

More on slavery:

eviticus 25:44-46 44 “ ‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.

RE: Are you of the opinion that a slave was sinning by running away to Canada?

In His letter to Philemon, Paul NEVER CONDEMENED the slave Onesimus for running away from his master. So, I believe the answer is NO.
