I think there’s going to be an “OK Corral” event this week at the SBC Annual Convention, per our pastor.

Earlier, SBC kicked out Saddleback and Russ Warren from the Convention because he’s bringing in women preachers (prohibited by the Bible).

Warren, with a large contingent, is supposed to show up and appeal this, and a ruckus is expected.

He is probably getting paid by the government to act as their agenda mouthpiece.

‘If it came down to ALL of the people perishing instead of the few scofflaws, God chose to save the faithful and protect the children...’

just like He did with the Great Flood...

Has he read the OT recently?

Noah was unjustly labeled a “conspiracy theorist” and a Climate Change denier by the Babylonian Times newspaper until the rain started coming down.

Russell Moore calling himself a Christian is an absolute joke. The man is pure evil.

The death penalty was not for being gay, but for pedophelia.

The problem of using OT law today, is that the death penalty was common for crimes that, while we may consider to be immoral, we certainly do not consider them worthy of death, e.g. fornication or adultery. But the crimes Uganda are referring to are homosexual rape. I don’t know that I object to the death penalty for rape, under the circumstances they state. I know one thing -— Jesus did NOT teach against the death penalty, though he did chide those who were going to stone the woman caught in adultery, but I think that’s because of their hypocrisy, plus the apparent failure to plan to also stone the man involved. I may be wrong about that; God knows. After all, His mercy endures forever, which I take to mean He allows for repentance and forgiveness, right up to the point of death.

They’ll have to change cultural norms, not to mention human nature, to do that. Genital mutilation, “necessitating” anal sex, is apparently an African custom in many areas.

"I think the death penalty should be reserved for those who commit murder. I think a long prison sentence is more appropriate in these cases."

In addition to punishment appropriate for a crime, Matthew 18:15-17 shows us that Jesus taught that unrepentant sinners are to be expelled from a congregation, then treated like pagans or tax collectors.

In fact, regardless that the Levitical punishment for incest is death, Corinthians 1 Chapter 5 shows us that Paul told the Corinthians to expel a member of their congregation who was guilty of incest.

Also, John 16:2-3 shows us that Jesus warned his followers of religious zealots who think that they are doing G-d a favor by killing people, Jesus explaining that such zealots do not know G-d or Jesus.

It appears the death penalty in Uganda includes other situations besides pedophilia. From the article:

According to Uganda’s law, the following are the categories of homosexual acts deemed now to be “aggravated” crimes liable to the death penalty: acts in which

(a) the person against whom the offence is committed is a child;

(b) the offender is a parent, guardian or relative of the person against whom the offence is committed;

(c) the person against whom the offence is committed contracts a terminal illness as a result of the sexual act;

(d) the offender is a serial offender;

(e) the offender is a person in authority over the person against whom the offence is committed;

(f) the person against whom the offence is committed is a person with disability or suffers a disability as a result of the sexual act;

(g) the person against whom the offence is committed is a person with mental illness or suffers a mental illness as a result of the sexual act;

(h) the person against whom the offence is committed is of advanced age;

(i) the sexual act is committed against a person by means of threats, force, fear of bodily harm, duress or undue influence, intimidation of any kind, or through misrepresentation as to the nature of the act; or

(j) the person against whom the offence is committed was, at the time the offence was committed, unconscious or in an altered state of consciousness due to the influence of medicine, drugs, alcohol or any other substance that impaired his or her judgment.

Most of the acts indicated in the law would legally qualify as acts of rape because they involve force, compulsion, or are committed against a person who is especially vulnerable or incapable of meaningful legal consent. In ordinary legal jurisprudence, regardless of whether such acts are homosexual or heterosexual, such acts would be deemed criminal.

The outrage against Uganda’s newest law even from so-called conservative voices in the West would seem to indicate an acceptance of homosexuality within western society that cannot allow its punishment in any way, even when homosexual acts are forced upon innocent children and the vulnerable in acts of rape that previous generations of Americans deemed self-evidently criminal.

The death penalty is merciful to both the criminal and society. Life in prison is cruel and unusual.

One can see why he's a Never Trumper. He's a leftist posing as a Christian.

Does Russell think God was wrong for commanding the death penalty for homosexual sodomy in the Bible?

What does his ‘husband’ think of the law?
