Prayer for Priests

A Prayer for Priests of the Latin Rite

O Jesus, our great High Priest,
hear my humble prayers on behalf of your priests.
Give them a deep faith, a bright and firm hope, and a burning love
which will ever increase in the course of their priestly life.
In their loneliness, comfort them.
In their sorrows, strengthen them.
In their frustrations, point out to them that it is through suffering
that the soul is purified,
and show them that they are needed by the Church
they are needed by souls
they are needed for the work of redemption. Amen.

O Loving Mother Mary, Mother of Priests,
take to your heart your sons who are close to you
because of their priestly ordination
and because fo the power which they have received
to carry on the work of Christ
in a world which needs them so much.
Be their comfort, be their joy, be their strength,
and especially help them to live and to defend
the ideals of consecrated celibacy. Amen.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, Divine and Eternal High Priest, let the life-giving waters of Thy love flow into the hearts of Thy priests and transform them into living images of Thee. By Thy grace make them true apostles of Thy Sacred Heart.

Save souls through Thy priests; accompany them through life. Give them the special grace of drawing sinners to Thy Sacred Heart, Refuge of sinners, that they may find forgiveness and salvation.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I pray for the fulfillment of this promise which Thou didst make to Saint Margaret Mary: "I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts." May Thy Kingdom come to the hearts of men through the activity of truly saintly priests.

O Jesus, Eternal Priest, keep these Thy holy ones within the shelter of Thy Sacred Heart, where none may touch them.
Keep unstained their anointed hands, which daily touch Thy Sacred Body.
Keep unsullied the lips purpled with Thy Precious Blood.
Keep pure and unearthly the hearts sealed with the sublime mark of Thy glorious Priesthood.
Let Thy holy love surround them and shield them from the world's contagion.
Bless their labors with abundant fruit, and may those to whom they minister be their joy and consolation here below, and in heaven their beautiful and everlasting crown.
Amen.

Lord Jesus, great High Priest who upon Calvary and at the table of the Last Supper prepared for the sacrifice of the Mass, I beg Thy blessing upon those priests whom Thou hast chosen to carry on Thy priestly work.

They are human, but they must occupy a divine office.
They must stand as Thy substitute before the eyes of the people.
Their hands must be pure enough to draw Thee down from heaven and strong enough to life the people to Thy heights.
They must speak the truth with courage.
Their lives must be Christlike, the mercy and tenderness modeled on Thine.

I pray that Thou, who in the Eucharist depend on them, will give Thy priests the graces that they need.
Give to young men a compelling vocation to serve Thee.
Give to priests the desire to do well their work, Thy work.
Make us respectful, reverent, and appreciative toward them.
Grant them the grace to be priests not unworthy of Thee, our High Priest.
Amen.

O my Good Jesus, teach me always to see Thyself in the Priest. I know that he has been set over me to direct me and to help me to save my soul. I know that Thou wilt never find fault with me if I obey him in everything in order to do Thy Holy Will. Teach me to love and to respect him always. Do Thou protect him and be near him in his great work of saving souls. Keep him from harm. Help him to bring many souls to Thee and thus to win for himself a glorious crown in heaven.
Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, Eternal High Priest, it is Thy holy Will to associate with Thyself in Thy priestly office other men to whom Thou dost entrust the most sublime of all human ministries. Have pity, most kind Jesus, on all the priests of holy Mother Church. Give them a love for Thee so great and warm, that it may fill their whole beings with fervor and zeal and make even the most difficult tasks easy and light for Thy love.

Have pity in particular, dear Lord, on all those priests who are spent and weary, discouraged, or desolate, or who labor under some special trial, temptation, or sorrow. Visit them with Thine efficacious graces and consolations. Kindle their hearts with the fire that burns in Thine own Most Sacred Heart. Teach them the methods of Thine apostolate, as Thou dist teach the favored twelve whom Thou didst choose to be Thine apostles.

Keep them from sin, comfort them in every affliction, give them health and vigor of body and soul, that they may do effectively the work Thou givest to them. Remind us to pray for them often. Help us to cooperate with their efforts. Make it the ambition of every Catholic to aid, by prayers and words and deeds, in the apostolic work of saving souls, the greatest of all human activities, and which drew Thy Divine Majesty from heaven to earth.

Grant, sweet Jesus, that all who are Thy priests on earth may come, holy and pure, to the glory of Thy heavenly kingdom, with all their faithful flocks, to rejoice in the vision of Thine Eternal Loveliness, Who, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, livest and reignest, one, all-loving God, world without end.
Amen.

Thank you for this beautiful prayer thread! There's a group called:"Intercessors of the Lamb." One of the prayers in their prayer book for priests goes like this:

"I will appoint over you shepherds, after my own heart, who will shepherd you wisely and prudently." (jer.3:15)

Father,in your plan for our salvation you provide shepherds for Your People.Father, we come to you now, in the name of Jesus, our High Priest and Intercessor, to ask that our shepherds especially(name)_______may receive:

A SERVANT'S HEART, committed to consecrated service of leadership.

A HUMBLE HEART,meek and gentle as the Lamb,to heal the brokenhearted.

A EUCHARISTIC HEART,full of love to worship you in spirit and in truth

A PRAYING HEART,interceding in the power of the Holy Spirit without ceasing.

A HEARING HEART,obedient to your Word.

An EVANGELISTIC HEART,on fire with zeal for the salvation of souls.

A RENEWED HEART,to give you greater honor and glory in Christ Jesus.

A DISCIPLE'S HEART, following the lamb wheresoever He goes, even to death on a Cross.

Father, we thank you for hearing our prayer and ask that Your priest sons may continue to guard the rich deposit of faith with the help of the Holy Spirit who dwells within them, and to bear with courage their share of the hardships which the gospel entails.Father, protect them from the evil one and keep them in Your love always. Amen.

Very beautiful. Thank you. I have two of Mother Nadine Brown's books (which I have given to my daughter to read). The Intercessors of the Lamb are extraordinary.

There's a devotion,"Passio Domini" that Fr.Wm Wagner's order,"The Canons Regular of the Holy Cross" have every Thursday night in their monastery. My parish,San Secondo D'Asti in Guasti,CA also has it for our parish every Thursday night. It is beautiful:

name="undefined_2">

Passio Domini
(The Passion of the Lord)

On the first Holy Thursday, Our Lord went into the garden to pray, signaling the beginning of His Divine Passion. He said, "Father, if it be Thy will, take this cup from Me: nevertheless, not My will, but Thine be done," Then an angel appeared to Him coming down from heaven to give Him strength. As the angel from heaven strengthened and nourished Our Lord, The Eternal High Priest, we gather in the presence of the Holy Eucharist to strengthen and spiritually nourish our priests, through the intercession of the Holy Angels.

Jesus intended that through the priests, this all important duty of the priestly office should live on in the Church in a visible way. For that reason, the care for the sacramental priesthood of the Church is an essential characteristic of the Work of the Holy Angels.

The "Paschal Mystery" of Jesus Christ lies at the center of our Christian faith. The Passover of Jesus accomplished through His suffering, death and resurrection also lies at the center of the spirituality of the Work of the Holy Angels. Members of the OA are encouraged to observe a weekly memorial of our Lord’s Passion in union with the holy angels of God. Beginning each Thursday evening and continuing until Friday afternoon members are asked to maintain a certain degree of recollection and reflection on the Lord’s Passio. They should spend an hour on Thursday evenings and another hour on Friday afternoon (according to the possibilities of one’s state in life) dedicating themselves to prayer and adoration in union with Jesus Christ as He passed through the Agony in the Garden on the first Holy Thursday, and died on the Cross on the first Good Friday.

Just as the angel came to strengthen Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane, so also we invoke the holy angels to strengthen us in the carrying of our own crosses. Nevertheless, the observance of the Passio Domini is first and foremost a prayer of intercession for others. During the time that we accompany Christ in His Passion, we offer the drops of Jesus’s Precious Blood which He shed for love of us and for the salvation of the world. We offer His blood in particular for priests and religious, that they be faithful in the fulfillment of their vocations. We also intercede for those priests who have abandoned their vocation that they be reconciled to Christ and His Church.

We listen for Our Lord to speak to our hearts; and we implore the Heavenly Father, allow one drop of the Precious Blood of Jesus, shed in the Garden of Gethsemani, to fall on those for whom we pray. In Our Lord's deepest despair, He found the Apostles asleep and asked them, "Could you have not stayed awake but for one hour?"

Come, then, we invite you to gather with us and the Holy Angels in the blessed work they do in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Anyone following the call of the Lord, who lets himself be led by his angel, learns first and foremost the virtue of silence; silence means more than 'Not talking." It is the silence of the lips and of the heart, the love of quiet and recollection; this silence bears reverence as its first fruit. It also elevates man into the world of hidden truths, into the world of the truths of Faith. It is the road to purgation, uprightness and integrity, a weapon against every dissipation, distraction and superficiality. One who in the quiet of silence has become awake and ready, one who has learned to listen for the Word and the call and command of the Lord, will also hear them, and execute them, in prompt obedience, with asking why, being subject then only to his discernment.

There are three stages in the ascetical life we regard as the Law of the Holy Angels; SILENCE - LISTENING - OBEDIENCE. All three practices should, in time, bear fruits and become, as it were, the characteristic attributes of one who is led by the Holy Angels.

Their external manifestation results in the four principal bearings to the Work: ADORATION - CONTEMPLATION - EXPIATION - MISSION. It is in these that one's life with the angel finds its expression. These four bearings are not new in the Church. The many and various monasteries as well as religious congregations bear witness to that. But here, it is the manner in which they are realized that is new; also the objective is new, particularly that of atonement for priests.

(we listen for Our Lord to speak to our hearts; and we implore the Heavenly Father, allow one drop of the Precious Blood of Jesus, shed in the Garden of Gethsemani, to fall on those for whom we pray. In Our Lord's deepest despair, He found the Apostles asleep and asked them, "Could you have not stayed awake but for one hour?" We pray to spend these three hours with Our Savior so that this time, He will not suffer alone. As the hour of midnight grew near, Our Lord turned to the sound of approaching voices, and among them was one of His own.

Come, then, we invite you to gather with us and the Holy Angels in the blessed work they do in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Please pray this especially for my former priest and the new priest who I will meet tomorrow. Our parish has gone through a real trauma lately and we all need prayers especially the younger ones who've been traumatized more than we older people have.

I agree. They're fantastic! Do you remember the name of that priest who had "died" and stood before the judgement seat of God,when the Lord was going to sentence him to Hell,Our Lady came and said,"Son, give him another chance,"(paraphrasing)? Father had been in a very bad car accident.I use to have the tape of him being interviewed by Mother Angelica.

Our diocese is having a weekly holy hour to pray for priests and in reparation. The bad news is that most attending are the "regulars" who go to daily mass, although a few guys who work (i.e. can't attend mass due to working schedules) did show up.
