Just Heard on EWTN internet radio that Padre Pio will be Canonized this June.
VATICAN, (CWNews.com) -- The city of Rome is preparing to receive at least 500,000 pilgrims on June 16, for the canonization of Padre Pio.
Planning for the ceremony, which is based in Padre Pio's old monastery at San Giovanni Rotondo, will include the temporary installation of large-screen video displays outside the basilica of St. John Lateran, and possibly at the fields of Tor Vergata (the site of World Youth Day in 2000), to accommodate the many pilgrims who will not be able to find a place in St. Peter's Square. The organizers also plan to place video screens along the Via della Conciliazione, running from St. Peter's Square down to the banks of the Tiber River, for the overflow crowd there.
Visitors may already find it difficult to arrange for lodging in Rome during the days immediately before and after the event. Organizers admit that as rumors of the canonization date spread, thousands of rooms were reserved-- even before the formal announcement.
Truly a saint, I am so joyful over his canonization. It couldn't come at a better time for the Church, and to remind us that there are indeed saintly, holy, remarkable men (and women) serving God. I am humbled thinking about Padre Pio and his remarkable life. What a wonderful role model for our children!
On another note, was Padre Pio a part of the Franciscan Order? Aren't they the same order that is protecting the Church of the Nativity in Bethleham as we sit here? Perhaps directing our prayers for a peaceable resolution in Bethleham for Padre Pio's intercession would be helpful. Thoughts?
"Do not disturb your soul at the sad spectacle of human injustice .... One day you will see the inevitable triumph of Divine justice over it."

Thoughts? There's a man in a nearby parish who has a personal apostolate directed at Padre Pio's canonization. For years, he's been showing movies of Padre Pio's life, and bringing a pair of Padre Pio's blood-soaked gloves and a nightshirt to his mission meetings. (I expect to see him doing cartwheels on Second Avenue two months from now : ) I'll be sure to pass your idea on to him.
Have a great day!

Those of you who are not familar with Padre Pio should do some research on the man -- even the current pope, while still a priest in Poland, made a special pilgrimage to see Padre Pio while he was still alive.
But more important than all the infinite number of miracles ascribed to him was that he truly loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart, soul and mind.
She was in the Church, and saw him from the balcony. And to this day, whenever she talks about it, there's one thing that she swears she will never forget for the rest of her life:
The overwhelming smell of roses.
Back when I was agnostic, that always bugged me. I always wondered if someone wasn't pumping something into that church, because if you knew her and could see her face when she told it, you'd understand my mom just could *NOT* lie like that.
I make novenna's to him. One was when a friend of mine had a daughter near death and in a coma for 6 weeks from a head-on auto accident. The Doctor's said she was in a vegetative state, and would never be normal if she ever came out of it.
"Padre Pio" came thru for us! She is home, and walks, talks and is gaining strengh every single day.
Other times, he has answered the most personal of prayers for me. I have a little statue of him.
To think, we knew and trusted in him BEFORE he became a Saint. He continues his mission in heaven, to pray to the Lord for our "healing".

Blessed Padre Pio, pray for us and for the cleansing of the Church.
(I notice the moderators are swiftly moving most threads on any "Catholic" issues to the "Religion Forum" ghetto. Will any other FReepers of good will join me in asking them to apply such censorship evenly, or knock it off?)
Not being Catholic, I just assumed St Francis was a priest. How does a brother differ from a priest? What are the criteria for being either?
Great story. It also kind of boggles the mind that Sr. Lucia is still alive.
Anyone hear the story that Padre Pio told our current pope back in the 60s that he would be pope some day?
