I didn't follow the California Gubernatorial election very much; however, I would like to point out how religious, devout and philanthropic this family really is. It shouldn't go unnoticed.

From the Philanthropy simon.html

Friends and acquaintances know that Simon’s philanthropy coexists with a business-bred insistence on results. "We work terribly hard at the Olin Foundation. I like to get things done," he says, in what staff and grantees probably view as something of an understatement.

A chip off the old block... A lot will say different but I think we missed a chance at a real gem in Bill Simon Jr. as Governor.

He's an amateur politician. Simon should have cut his teeth on another race, learned the ropes, THEN run for governor.

He said, and did, a lot of stupid, not-ready-for-prime-time stuff.

He'll win next time :)

He's got name recognition now...that's good. Let Davis turn this place into a shithole.

People will change from D to R in the gubanatorial election...

The Heritage Foundation has elected William E. Simon Jr. to the board of trustees. Simon is the executive director of William E. Simon & Sons, a Morristown, New Jersey private investment firm, and before that worked under then-U.S. attorney for New York Rudolph Guiliani as assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York. Simon also serves as vice chairman of Paxson Communications, chairman of GeoLogistics Corporation, and vice chairman of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Yes, it's too bad that Ronald Reagan started his politcal career by running for governor, instead of learning the ropes by running for a lesser office. Reagan had the potential for a really exceptional career in politics.

...Dumb-ass politicians.

Don't you mean "dumb-ass voters?"

Why does everyone constantly blame the politician for the loss? The voters (and rate payers) know all about Grey Davis's incompetence and corruption. They made their choice and now all Californians have to live with it. Note this: Costs hit home for energy crisis .

Let's put the blame where it really belongs -- the stupid, selfish voter who thinks that the Democrats will provide a fine lifestyle for free.

Reagan did start his career with a lesser office -- President of the Screen Actors' Guild. He rose to statewide and national attention by campaigning for Barry Goldwater.

We did. Simon may not have been the best campaigner in the country, but he would have been an OUTSTANDING governor. Hopefully, he won't give up on our state, or other good men and women won't be discouraged by how he was treated by friends and foes alike.

Thanks for the websites. Forwarded them to relatives living in Los Angeles. Hope for Bill Simon. He could get CA out of its budget mire. He's a better alternative and more qualified than that RINO social democrat Arnauld with his Kennedy RAT wife.

Happen to be researching another article posted about Jamie Lee Curtis, Schwarzenegger's co-star in True Lies, calling him a social democRAT. Ran across your article on Bill Simon. He good perform a good job for Californians if given the chance in my humble opinion. By the way, the article on Schwarzenegger being a social democrat is listed below.

Schwarzenegger a "Social Democrat'

A Republican Hollywood liberals can accept. On Thursday's Good Morning America, actress Jamie Lee Curtis declared of Arnold Schwarzenegger the morning after he announced he's running in the recall election for Governor of California: "I think he will make a fantastic Governor."

She soon revealed her rationale: "I actually believe he's really, at his heart, even though he pretends to be a Republican, I think he's a social Democrat at heart."

Curtis appeared during the 8am half hour on the August 7 GMA to plug her new movie, Freaky Friday, but Diane Sawyer first asked whether she would vote for Schwarzenegger, with whom she co- starred in the 1994 film, True Lies. Curtis responded, as taken down by MRC analyst Jessica Anderson: "I think he will make a fantastic Governor. I think he's a fantastic guy. Look at who he is, from where he came from, and what he's done with his life. Look at his family life, look at his business life, look at his heart. You know, nobody knows what this man does. I don't think he's ever really sought publicity for the inner city games that he's created. He travels the world on behalf of Special Olympics, and I mean for years and years now. I think he's going to absolutely put up what he says he's going to do, and I think what else does California need except somebody who's going to do what they say they're going to do. He's charismatic, he's smart, he's fiscally responsible, and I believe-" Sawyer, laughing: "I hope you get a Cabinet post!" Curtis exclaimed: "I actually believe he's really, at his heart, even though he pretends to be a Republican, I think he's a social Democrat at heart. I think he's going to be a fantastic Governor, and there you go, and I hope he's taking his family to see Freaky Friday this weekend, or else I'm going to have to flick him on the tip of his lovely nose."

It's a shame Simon didn't beat Greyout back in 2002.

Dumb-ass politicians.

You don't know what you are talking about. I spent two years of my life on that campaign. The "dumb-asses" were not the Simons or anyone they willingly employed.

Simon lost. What kind of politician does that make him?

Besides, why are you dragging this up, two years later?

What turned people off here in California was his perceived arrogance according to all I saw and heard. I am sorry, but when you are involved in governing, you have to work with others, and he was apparently difficult according to reports. Good man? Absolutely! Hope he goes far, but he needs to learn how to present himself better I suppose.

Simon may not be as unfit for office as Kerry, but he is unfit. I voted for Davis. And when he ran in the recall election, he got no traction, and dropped out early. Why? Because he comes across as an empty suit, who has not done his homework. He also has a problem with telling the truth IMO. He isn't going to run for any political office again, ever.

By the way, what does one's professed religion or lack thereof have to do with anything? It seems so derivative to me. I am more interested in parsing a man's smarts and character by examing the man, not his religion. JMO.

Please elaborate on the facts that undergird your opinion that Simon has trouble telling the truth. I had never heard that about him before.

The last straw for me was when Simon before some gay group said that he supported civil unions, and then denied that he had said it. That was when I deemed Simon terminally unfit for office.
