Line breaks and other HTML tags do not work in article headers. You can use most HTML tags in replies, though. Or, you can use no tags and let the software auto-format your paragraphs.

Maybe it would be helpful for folks new to the religion forum if someone, maybe you, could supply them with a stat sheet on all the “players”. You know, affiliation, former screen names (for historical threads) humor quotient, etc. I have a hard time keeping everyone straight sometimes.

Post the entire article.

This is true for several reasons, the most practical being that an article whihc attracts serious interest can lead to too much demand for a particular site. This site is built for large numbers.

Also, the political objects of this site are (in part) to analyze the media. We have, numerous times, caught the wire services or papers with ongoing "changes" to posted articles. Without the original text here, it all disappears down the memory hole.

Also, many articles are posted on sites as a "daily" article, then the article is archived to a different address. in other words, a link today to one article is either defunct or points to another article the next day.

Lastly, due to a law suit, excerpting is required for any material that originates with the Washington Post or LA Times or their writers.

Dear Patrick,

Posters prefer if the entire article is posted (as long as it isn't too long). Excerpting was necessitated by the owner's legal troubles with the Washington Post, the LA Times, and some other folks.

Since you're likely to be posting articles from your own magazine, I suppose there won't be any copyright issues. ;-)

It depends. If the article is really long, it is better to excerpt it. Also, if the article is from the Washington Post or any of its sister papers, one has to excerpt it, keeping it to 100 words or less. This is the terms of a settlement between FR and WP.
