The Ron Paul Juggernaut

By David Knowles
Nov 6th 2007 8:14AM

This morning, a collective gasp of dismay was heard coming from the Republican party candidates for president. The news? Texas congressman Ron Paul has set a new GOP single-day fundraising record. In a 24-hour period Mr. Paul raised $4.2 Million dollars through on-line donations. The astonishing total suddenly has people wondering: Is this guy for real? Though he may not win the Republican nomination, his candidacy can no longer be written off as "the longest of long shots." He's raising top-tier money, and attracting thousands of new supporters every week, in part due to a strong performance on the Tonight Show (see below). Much to the disdain of the GOP establishment, one thing has become certain about Mr. Paul, he will have an effect on the race.

So how did Paul do it? Who are these hordes of internet supporters that he is reaching? Well, according to Reuters they are all around us. A recent survey found that 80% of adults now regularly use the internet. And many of them are impressed with Paul's candor and consistency. Say what you will about the merits of his positions, but he is nothing if not steadfast in his reasoning.

Greg McNeilly had a good post about Mr. Paul's transparent approach to fundraising and spending, and it underlines a central aspect of the Texas congressman's appeal. With "Dr. No," as Paul is known, you know what you're going to get. He's certainly not a flip-flopper.

As to whether abandoning Iraq and Afghanistan, or abolishing the IRS and the Department of Education are good ideas (never mind whether the latter items have a snowball's chance in hell of passing muster in congress) almost seems beside the point. Mr. Paul has become a symbol of revolt for voters tired of politics as usual. This modern day Guy Fawkes is rising in stature faster than any other candidate. Will he play the role of spoiler? Win the nomination out right? Even become president? Yesterday showed that ignoring Ron Paul (Ron Paul George and Ringo, as i like to call him) is not a smart move.

Most of his money is coming from people attempting to pull a 5th column on the GOP.

Funny thing is that no-one is falling for it.

The only thing wrong with this bong is that it has no Ron Paul 08 bumper stickers on it.

RP is a loon. So are his supporters

WOW well reasoned argument against Ron Paul. Tell me, have you ever financed a tattoo? Taken a beer to a job interview? climbed a water tower with a bucket of paint to defend you mother's honor?

Ron Paul is being set up as the 2008 election’s Ross Perot. Only way Hillary could win is to split the Republican vote since she won’t get 50%. Just like her husband, she’ll coast in wih a low 40% Wonder how much of Paul’s donations are from Soros and othr Hillary backers?

Soros' previous maneuvers involved used large numbers of donors at the $2300 level who were overpaid socialist leeches that "worked" for his 501c Lefty non-profits.

The average donor to RP's campaign is at $100 or less. The average for two days ago was 38,000 people donating $100 or more each. And the campaign released figures that only 3% of their donors were maxxed out at $2300, so unlike the donor lists for McCain, Romney, Giuliani, Xlinton, and even Obama to a lesser degree. Admittedly, Obama does have a lot of small donors so you have to give him credit for that, I think.

It's hard to assemble such a picture of a Soros-backed RP moneybomb. And we have very few (maybe none) actual Code Pink and MoveOn leadership types (Soros-paid minions) who are supporting or donating to Ron Paul. They routinely warn all their followers at HuffPost and DailyKo(ook)s to avoid RP despite his antiwar agenda because their pro-socialism agenda is far more important than their fake antiwar agenda which is not principled at all except as an expression of their anti-Americanism. After all, these are hardened Lefties, many of them from the old communist Left in this country, and they actually like American soldiers to die. They aren't all that opposed to war, no matter how many demonstration they hold. Just as the Dim feminists loved to defend the Rapist-In-Chief, these Code Pinkers and MoveOns will make some little fuss if President Hitlery is elected and then stand by silently, waiting to defend her as she conducts military operations around the world, possibly getting the fig leaf of socialist goodness because Hitlery would put our soldiers under U.N. command which would be in keeping with the Left's goal of destroying American sovereignty, making our best and most effective soldiers quit in disgust and move the progress of socialist global government forward, the only thing they like even more than American socialism.

No, despite the fevered parroting of the Soros accusation here at FR, there is no indication whatsoever that Soros is backing Ron Paul as a divider. See my post above on why and how the GOP might try to get RP to run as a spoiler against Hitlery, just as they are currently trying to get Bloomberg to run.

Now if you want to know who is funding and supporting the enemy (Hitlery), look at Rupert Murdoch who is funneling huge money to Hitlery and who's Fox News is a complete free ad from the leftwing mayor and look at the donations of Fox News employees who, as Dr. John Lott has investigated and reproted, are donating to Dim candidates at a rate of over 80% currently.

If you want to look for the real Soros figure and organization in this election year, it's Rupert Murdoch and Fox News who are funding and supporting Hitlery and the Dims with Guiliani as their backup in case she doesn't win. It's disgusting and I won't watch that channel any more until I see them return to what FNC was when it started.

Thanks for the ping.

I love the timing of the announcement that Pat Robertson is endorsing Giuliani. If this doesn’t show that Robertson is controlled by the PTB, I don’t know what does. Shows how much Robertson really values the pro-life issue.

I am sorry, but Ron Paul is an idiot, and people who support his myopic anarchist drug addled anti-Semite world view are complete idiots as well.

If Ron Paul runs third party that is where the similarity will end. It isn't that complicated, though. Ross Perot attracted voters who were to mad to vote for Read-my-lips, but didn't want to vote for Clinton.

In this election the likely Republican candidate is Rudy. If it is a contest between Rudy and Hillary and Paul decides to run third party after all, how would that hurt Rudy? Rudy and Hillary would be fighting over the same vote. If the Republican party nominates Rudy, they deserve to lose the election, anyway and Ron Paul has nothing to do with that.

I love the timing of the announcement that Pat Robertson is endorsing Giuliani.

Based on his recent appearances, I think Robertson has gone senile. I'm thinking his endorsement was manufactured by those controlling him behind the scenes. My dad is in a rest home now and Robertson's appearances in the last few years makes me think of a lot of the residents there.

Even a few years back, no way would Robertson have endorse the leftwing mayor. NO WAY.

I've bookmarked your response to Lesbian Thespian as one of the clearest statements to date on who is financing whom in this presidential contest. Although I don't watch cable news channels as a general rule, I'll have to ask my wife (an FNN addict) whether they've had John Lott on as a guest recently. I suspect not.

Even the worst laws sometimes have unintended consequences their authors could not foresee. McCain-Finegold-Thompson is no exception. Limiting donations just seemed so right to those jerks at the time it was passed, along with all the required disclosures. Now, it's coming back to bite the establishment candidates whose base was millionaire trial lawyers and Wall Street bankers. Their grass roots had great depth but no width.

Ron Paul has tens of thousands of active backers who are willing to pony up, even if they don't have a lot to give. They are growing in number as other campaigns wither for lack of funds (donors maxed out, maybe?). The new tv ads will no doubt generate more supporters and more contributions.

But I think the current economic mess will be to Ron Paul's benefit also, as he's the only candidate in either party who understands, and talks about, the failure of fiat money to sustain worldwide empires. As the dollar declines and gold and oil prices soar, this could tip the scales and put him into serious contention for the Republican nomination.

“Since the prefix ir- means ‘not’ (as it does with irrespective), and the suffix -less means ‘without,’ irregardless is a double negative.”

Mental midgetry. Stupid candidate. Stupid supporters.

Don’t even bother. There’s going to be a few Paul bashers who’ll resort to name-calling. They’re not worth the time.

If that liberal POS turd Rudy is nominated, then I will write in Paul’s name in the general or hope he runs as a 3rd party candidate.
