Once again honoring the revolutions of history, Texas Congressman Ron Paul will commemorate the Boston Tea Party Sunday, with his campaign attempting to set another one day fund raising record and beat out the $4.4 million he collected from supporters last month on November 5th, Guy Fawkes Day.
The campaign's new blimp also took to the air Friday, leaving North Carolina on its maiden voyage up the east coast.
The blimp was originally scheduled to drop tea into Boston the harbor on Sunday, but a launch delay forced organizers to reschedule the flight plan for a New Hampshire primary appearance on January 8th.
Despite a low standing in national polls, Pauls extensive grassroots campaign may yet give credence to the fact that early polls are merely snapshots of the race.
Given Pauls media attention and die hard supporters, there is little doubt Sundays event will eclipse November's record.
But can Paul bring in enough Republicans for a bid at the nomination?
Current support has leaned heavily on former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who recently took has a commanding lead in Iowa, and as a former Baptist minister, has proven adept at courting the parties evangelicals.
But for Paul and others, Iowa will not be the end all.
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is high in the national polls, but not in Iowa where he has never planned on securing a victory. His big ticket rides on the larger states and later primaries.
Paul has seen stronger media attention lately and with his commitments to a completely new monetary policy and immediate withdrawal from Iraq, the real contest will come down to whether people believe Paul, or candidates like Giuliani when it comes to foreign policy and fiscal management.
We’re gonna go way over the top ($12M) on Sunday! Wh00t!
Wouldn’t one need an environmental impact statement before dumping the tea into Boston harbor?
and will it be decaf? wouldn’t want to buzz the little marine critters , now would we?
LOL! I think tea is a natural product though Norm. The fishies will be OK :-)
Oh, I don’t know, if its from China, I’d be real careful. ;-)
Flying a blimp and throwing away perfectly good teas, inspires me to vote for RP - why?
The phone rings, I answer and say hello, and then there's this long silence. You know, the silence that comes when you're being hooked up to some computer system somewhere.
Then this cheery recorded chick comes on and says, "Hello, please hold for a very important message from Dr. Ron Paul."
And then I hear another recorded voice that says, "Hello I'm Dr. Ron Paul..."
Now, I've never held on to the phone beyond that point so I've no idea what he's about or what his rap is.
I do see a lot of Ron Paul sign in the neighborhood though.
They're on the crazy people's lawns; the people who won't shut up at town meeting, the people who write letters to the editor of the local paper every week, the people who write letters to the editor in rhyming verse, that sort of element...
Remember RuPaul. Hold your tea cup with your little finger up in the air.
You Rue Paul supporters going to do all kinds of mutual “Tea Bagging” to celebrate?
No, YOU?
If I were supporting Rue Paul, sure. Tea Bagging is a requirement for support followed by a hit on a bong, and a need for serious psyc meds.
Go Rue Paul. 12 million Tea Bags.
“...all kinds of mutual Tea Bagging to celebrate?”
Gee, thanks alot for almost causing me to do a spit take all over my keyboard.
Congrats to Ron Paul, the only Republican who can turn Greens , Deaniacs , and disaffected Dimocrats into part-time Patriots ....
Hey, I call em like I see em.
The Rue Paul contingent are a bunch of Tea Baggers.
In case other people do not understand the ref:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teabagging
It just keeps getting cruder and cruder. If there's a bottom to this barrel I hope we hit it pretty soon.
Nah, you’re just jealous because FR’s favorite, Fred Dunce Thompson, is sucking ass in the GOP primaries.
Are you kidding me? RP brings out the worst in people. Cut and run. Pass the bong. Racism. Anti-Semites. etc.
Ron Paul is a putz.
Hey, I didn’t decide to label myself the tea bagger candidate.
Rue Paul did. His following are like a horde of lemmings. Over the clifffffffffff...........
Don’t you DARE compare Al Bundy to Ron Paul! Bundy would not only eliminate the beer tax, he would be no p*ssy when it comes to kicking enemy ass, in the middle east or at the nudie bar.
What kind of meat head posts a 1200 x 600 pixel image that takes up 2.4 meg of browser memory just rendering. Sheesh man. I know you like a nut... just please don’t do dumb things.
Oh, and the RP people are morons for using a rastered image for this when the same thing can be done perfectly scalable as something vectored and not be so obnoxious. Dumb candidate. Dumb supporters.
No, I'm serious. How much farther down that road do you think we'll go before people start thinking twice about letting their kids on the site?
Given the discussion of so many things that are controversial, I wouldn’t think many a parent let kids on here now. It is parental responsibility to decide what their children learn and are exposed to. Be it an atheist parent or homosexual couple that adopted or a honest to goodness conservative.
How is this different than a evangelicals child asking about the don’t ask don’t tell policy.
Your argument holds no weight.
What say we ask an evangelical if they'd rather have to explain "don't ask, don't tell" or "tea bagging" to their child, and see.
They are the same thing there chief.
We seem to have a difference of opinion.
Thousands of grassroots supporters & millions of dollars raised says otherwise.
wow, cool pic.
LOL! ok ill give you that one.
Sean Penn has hundreds of millions of fans and scores of millions of dollars. He's still a putz.
So it's simply your opinion, which is irrelevant to Paul's supporters.
Per the FEC, Kucinich has drawn about $2.2 million in donations. Paul has drawn about $8.3 million. On the scale of a presidential campaign, with Hilary at $90 million, Obama at $80 million, Romney at $62 million, and Rudy at $45 million, all that means is that Paul is marginally less marginal than Kucinich. Both are polling in the low single digits. Paul has built his campaign on stunts to get big single-day donor numbers that exceed what the major candidates get every day.
Sean Penn has gotten no campaign contributions, for the simple reason that he isn't running for office. Which does not change the fact that he has a lot of money nor the fact that he is a putz.
On your original point that Dr. Paul has "thousands" of supporters, that's setting the bar so low that an Olsen twin couldn't limbo under it. Mickey Mouse gets thousands of votes.
So it's simply your opinion, which is irrelevant to Paul's supporters.
So tack my opinion on as item #12,843 on the list of things irrelevant to Ron Paul supporters.
10 minutes $11,668,311. It’s George Soros I tell you!! Hope I get my check next week ;)
Trying to donate now. Has raised over 100K in less than 10 minutes.
Still waiting for my check. Hope it comes soon, my mom is threatening to kick me out of the basement here. ROFL
(Wolf Blitzer) "Amazing, amazing numbers!"
***Its George Soros I tell you!! Hope I get my check next week ;)***
I’m still waiting for Soros to send me a check from the last money bomb. LOL.
GREAT!! Thanks. Still wonder how giving day went for the other candidate.
Well it’s late here (12:38) but I’m going to stay up until 1AM to see it hit the quarterly goal. Don’t really know how the MSM and the other candidates are going to spin it though if he outraises them all this quarter (which I think is going to happen)
I have all night because it is 1:38pm Sunday. In Asia till mid jan. Will keep checking in every so often to see how he is doing. Will keep you guys informed.
Just submitted my donation. Wanted to be in on the 12MM. LOL
