Fred Thompson: Lazy as Charged

WAVERLY, Iowa — When is retail politics not retail politics? When candidates refuse to get off their big buses and go do it.

Fred Thompson rolled into this small town on the Cedar River in north-central Iowa on a giant brown bus Tuesday. He also had a van, an entourage of guys with earpieces and a press aide.

Thompson’s public schedule said: “Fred Thompson Tours Downtown Waverly and Drops by Waverly Democrat.”

Even the Waverly newspaper editor was unable to coax Fred into making a comment of substance on the topic of agriculture.

His ‘walking for the Presidency’ isn’t working. Thats clear from the stagnation in the polls.

If he’s going to continue doing it this way, he should drop out of the race, and allow everybody to focus on somebody thats RUNNING for President.

I’m not bashing him, folks. I’m expressing my profound disappointment in his campaign so far.

I hope somebody from his campaign reads this, but based on what I’m seeing they are probably on a dial up internet hookup......

I saw that. Roger Simon throwing a temper tantrum because he wasn’t allowed into the meeting. The photo doesn’t even jibe with his negativity.

I like Fred alot. But he has to convince me that he wants the job. I do not hire those who don’t ask for the job in an interview - he is no different.

Man, these people are brutal. Shake my hand or I won’t even consider voting for you. What about the rest of us in real America where we don’t have a remote opportunity such as this. We get to watch the bias MSM to get our information and sift through the BS. So what if they are first and caucus. Their influence is not what it was, so they should just get over themselves and their self importance.

Perhaps we need someone in politics that doesn't have such a burning desire to rule others as the typical politician. Those most suited to the role of President probably have the least interest in running for it. All we get with the current system is power hungry freaks.

Who in the heck in coaching Fred?

The last thing he should be doing is living up to his reputation of being a lazy campaigner.

However, he does it time and time again.

Unfortunately, unlike Reagan, Fred is a better actor than he is a politician.

Something is rotten in Denamrk! From the piece:

“Anelia Dimitrova, the executive regional editor, greeted us in warmly and invited us to have a seat, chat and use the bathroom. She offered Mark a high-speed Internet line so he could upload some video to his website and I sat down with her for a brief interview.

She said Thompson was the first candidate to come into the paper. The paper does not endorse candidates, and maybe that is why the others have skipped it. “He’s got a lot of catching up to do,” Dimitrova said. “I think it’s a sign he is behind. I don’t think he necessarily wants to run. Bluntly, I don’t know why he is running.” “

OBAMA: Waverly may be ahead of Washington

Tuesday, August 21, 2007 9:06 AM CDT

Editor’s note: Smaller newspapers rarely get a one-on-one chance to sit down with a presidential candidate. In a 12-minute interview with Waverly Newspapers, Barack Obama was generous with his time and forthcoming with his insights.

What follows is an edited transcript. You can see a video segment of the interview at our sister paper’s Web site, www.cedarfallstimes.com.

ANELIA K. DIMITROVA: What is the most gratifying part about being in Iowa?

She forget the 12 minute get with Barrack Obama less then 6 months ago?

Well Badeye....guess what else the fine campaign staff of Fred’s did?

Fred Thompson will NOT be on the ballot in the Delaware primaries come this Feb. 5.

Seems they didn’t get a petition in for 500 names as required. also, he was supposed to send people to a local GOP fundraiser and they didn’t get there until after 9 pm. the event began at 7 pm and it was almost over by 9.

So I will have ZERO chance to vote for Thompson in the primary.

His campaign is running at ZERO miles per hour.

I oncit really like the guy but damn I’m not sure I’d want anyone like this to be the president.

If getting ELECTED is so unimportant to the man than just damn....

he should drop out of the race, and allow everybody to focus on somebody thats RUNNING for President.

He's scheduled in over 50 cities, 55 counties in two weeks on the bus tour he started on Monday. His timing on when he started is certainly questionable, IMO. However, I just don't see somebody who's lazy or doesn't want the job working this type of schedule.

I also don't see how one can draw a conclusion that a candidate is lazy because they were shut out of a meeting or that that the candidate appeared at a fire station.

If I were too lazy to want the job, I'd be campaigning in South Carolina and Florida exclusively.

"Good grief. Sounds like whining to me..."

That's exactly what it is. That Mark Halperin that Fred would not allow into the conference was none other than the former ABC News Director Mark Halperin who said during the 2004 elections that [paraphrasing]: "both candidates lie but we have to call Bush on all his lies and not worry about Kerry."

They had a petition with more than 500 names, but too many were rejected. The didn't gather sufficient signatures to cover the rejections.
