Ron Paul: In Your Straw Heart, You Know He's Right
Reason ^ | February 21, 2010 | Nick Gillespie

Still, if the GOP is interested in actually doing something more glorious than its multi-year FUBAR when George W. Bush and the Republicans were fully in charge of the federal government, they'd do well to listen very closely to Dr. No. However rotten Obama and the Dems poll, the GOP should never think anyone believes them when they say they are the party of small government and, for god's sake, we're well past the sad-sack culture-war days of various Republican geniuses like Newt Gingrich (4 percent!) talk up flag-burning amendments (the First Amendment is not a suicide pact with square pieces of cloth made in China!)and English-only rules (because, seriously, how can you be a real American if you don't speak the mother tongue of Great Britain?). Ron Paul pulled well in the Republicans primaries and among the youth of America precisely because he offered something distinct from the sad sacks he was running against.

The only thing I found interesting about the article is that it didn’t report that Ron Paul is nuts.

I agree and would love to see the USPS ended, but -unlike so much of what goes on in Washington these days- at least maintaining a post office is a enumerated power.

Doesn’t mean they have to do it. It works if UPS, FedEx and email are doing it.

Mr. Nick Gillespie says:

(because, seriously, how can you be a real American if you don't speak the mother tongue of Great Britain?)

BECAUSE: Immigration and Nationality Act of 27 June 1952 (the McCarran-Walter Act) and subsequent amendments governs naturalization. Under this act, applicants must demonstrate basic ability in written English.

Mr. Nick Gillespie says:

talk up flag-burning amendments(the First Amendment is not a suicide pact with square pieces of cloth made in China!)

Suicide pact with the First Amendment? I'm not grovin' on that analogy.

It's about respect, respect for the men and women who have died under that flag

Respect for country, because that's what that square piece of cloth represents.

If you are angry at the USA, why would you want to destroy her or that which represents her?

Speak against the laws, congress, the President but to symbolically destroy the USA, it's disgusting?

I agree with Ron Paul on some things... some I haven't decided if I agree, or disagree, and some... I strongly disagree with.

Oh yeah I agree and would love to see them shut down, my only point was that -unlike that medicare prescription drug fiasco and “health care reform”- providing for the post office isn’t unconstitutional.

I just don’t get the Palin idolization. Sorry. But I do not think she is qualified at ALL to be president.

I hear ya brother. We already have a celebrity president now. I sure as hell won't vote for one on the other side of the spectrum.

Palin is the best qualified conservative that is a potential candidate.

Paul is a fruitcake.

It wasn’t especially surprising, he usually does well in events like these. The Paulists somewhat discredit themselves by making a big deal out of it.

The conservative side has yet to provide a candidate for 2010 that will get me to start making phone calls or volunteer again. I sat at a headquarters until 745 pm election night in 2008. What I know about Sarah Palin right now - her consistent and useless knee jerk reactions every time anyone says anything about disabilities she does not agree with are doing her a disservice. I don’t want another rock star president, and while she performed well with her acceptance speech, and her debate against Biden - since then I haven’t seen anything great from her. After a while every time you show up and all you can say is “How’s that hopey changey thing workin’ out for ya?” (which she did not invent) then yes, you are a lightweight. By the way, I was one of those enamored by her and saw her twice. Let’s hear more from her on energy and foreign policy and weapons development and defense and homeland security.

Very well put. I do agree.

These are serious times. We can't gamble in 2012.
