The Texas congressman announced on "Good Morning America" that he is launching an official campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. As the founding father of a libertarian movement that paved the way for the tea party, Mr. Paul thinks his odds have improved since his last campaign in 2008. He said people are finally agreeing with much of what Ive been saying for 30 years. The time is right.
What do you think? Could Ron Paul be the nominee?

I see paulbots already swarmed this poll.
Ron Paul is not going to win the Republican nomination and he will never, ever be President.
To: Williams
hell I’ll take him over obama. I disagree with him strongly in regards to Israel but I think we should be bringing our soldiers home and focusing on securing our southern border and developing our own energy supplies. He seems like the type to push for the defanging the EPA and he’s bussiness friendly
Hell let the rest of the world burn this country has wasted trillions and haven’t gotten a fraction of our investment back. We need to rebuild and strengthen within our own shores then we can start projecting power again.

I suppose in the most theoretical way, anyone could win the nomination on any given day, whoever Paul will not win.

You disagree with him then spend dozens of words agreeing with him. So which is it?

Ron Paul would get annihilated in a general election against Obama.
However, he would make a fine Sec of Treasury or Fed Chairman.

I said I disagreed to him in regards to Israel and I’ll add in other aspects of our defense policy. I didn’t say I disagreed with him in other areas. In terms of economic policy I think he’s head and shoulders above every president we’ve had since Ronald Reagan. Without a strong economic policy our defense policy won’t mean jack since we won’t have the funds to pay soldiers much less develop new weapon platforms or to fuel carriers to counter China.

I am not a PaulBot, but if Obama can win in 2008 anything is possible.

There's no fool like an old fool. If Ron Paul really cared about his ideals and not his ego, he'd pass the torch to someone with less baggage and just fade away.
The longer he clings to the spotlight, the longer a lot of his really outstanding and valid ideas will be tainted with the stink of kookiness.

You betcha! AND ON ANY DAY! Alas, though, he might be too tough on communists and people just don’t have the stomach for much of that. /s
He sounds entirely cranky toward anyone who messes with the Constitution, or who supports messing with it. As for the blocks and blocks of entities and institutions in DC which circumvent the Constittution, he’s cranky about that too.

This is the guy who said he would not have ordered the hit on OBL? Not only that, but that killing him "violated international law."
Notice how RP only plays the "international law" card when either condemning Israel or protecting Mohammedan terrorists? Otherwise he couldn't give a rip about it. Quite revealing.

Post of the week. Well done.
If the idiot Paul runs, Zero will beat Ronald Reagan's electoral vote record and win all 50 states (yes, including Texas) in an unprecedented electoral landslide.

If you want a “strong defense,” you will oppose world policing. The two are completely at odds. The wise founders, who hated entangling alliances and empire, understood this. Some modern conservatives who think that we afford to police the world till kingdom come would do well to study their insights.

To: rabscuttle385
Yes he could. His foreign policy positions need to be tempered in light of real world conditions, however. I believe he is quite good on the domestic front and the role of the federal government. Presently, the federal government is the mortal enemy of or nation, being driven by dims to our destruction. So...could I vote for Ron Paul? Sure. I certainly would not dismiss him out of hand. Will I vote for Ron Paul? Depends upon the other candidates. Won't matter anyway. By the time I get to vote the dims will have nominated Romney as our candidate. Cross over voting don't ya know.

Ron Paul in every respect, is the closest politician on the national scene, to the Founding Fathers.
Its about time the country did a 180...and as much as I personally dislike libertariansism...I don't think there's another national leader who could accomplish a 180.
I'd be surprised if he got the nomination. The American people would probably elect his radicalism however.

What makes you think the surrender monkey would do anything? He has been in Washington for who knows how many years and what has he ever actually done? Other than talk. He blames America for every problem in the world, but what has he done about it, nothing. He wants to legalize drugs, but has he done that yet? While he does want our military full of homos and that has come to pass, it was not his doing, he just wanted it. He also does get tons of earmarks, but he says he is against them.
