Giving up? On Work And On This System Of Government?
Tea Party Nation ^ | 12/8/12 | Jane Galt

Does anyone know exactly when it was that the government started cooking the books on unemployment, and counting people who have given up and left the work force, as "no longer being unemployed"?

Seems to me that that one change in statistic-keeping set the stage for moving people from work onto welfare, and I think it was made during Clinton's regime? Or was it Carter?

It appears to allow them to move people transparently from work to welfare, and the unemployment statistics only look half as bad as they really are. Look at:

The U3 is the figure that makes the politicians look good, and the U6 is reality. Double.

I guess I need a clarification for something. When people “give up looking for work,” does mean they have not found work BUT their unemployment benefits have ended at that time? And that’s what they’re NOT counting?

I left unemployment $$ on the table; only took them long enough to get my 26-week severance package (transition benefit). Then I continued looking for another 2 months w/o unemployment, gave up, and retired.

I have an idea. Let's take the per cent of the available work force that isn't working full time and call it the unemployment rate.

“Work Force” would not include the retired, the infirmed, the incarcerated, the PERMANTLY disabled, children.

Should a “baby mommy” on welfare be counted as part of the workforce? OF COURSE! Is she able? YES. Is she unemployed? YES. No brainer.

No “seasonally adjusted”. No “adjusted” of ANY kind! No, we have to make the “just before an election adjustment”. SORRY, NO ADJUSTMENTS.

Oh, and by the way, let's have a PRIVATE sector entity compile the data and report the results. Obviously, the gubmint can't be trusted.

For the most part - Unemployment Figures is just "A stupid Poll"

http://www.bls.gov/cps/cps_htgm.htm

~snip~
There are about 60,000 households in the sample for this survey. This translates into approximately 110,000 individuals, a large sample compared to public opinion surveys which usually cover fewer than 2,000 people. The CPS sample is selected so as to be representative of the entire population of the United States. In order to select the sample, all of the counties and county-equivalent cities in the country first are grouped into 2,025 geographic areas (sampling units). ....

Every month, one-fourth of the households in the sample are changed, so that no household is interviewed more than 4 consecutive months. .... After a household is interviewed for 4 consecutive months, it leaves the sample for 8 months, and then is again interviewed for the same 4 calendar months a year later, before leaving the sample for good....

Each month, 2,200 highly trained and experienced Census Bureau employees interview persons in the 60,000 sample households for information on the labor force activities ...

They have been lying and fudging the data since the first day they began collecting it.

(IMHO- “Tea Party Nation” posts shouldn’t be excerpted and by excerpting, it puts a ‘troll’ stain on that site and owners)

Judging by the quality of writing as evidenced in the bit that is posted here the blog is in sore need of an editor.

I thought it was just some new sort of political Sci-Fi writing.

I think the numbers were tinkered with for years...I think the same on the COLA.......somehow, when it benefits the govt, the stats get tweaked, twisted, arranged, dropped, or entirely changed...

Whenever the party is being judged by a metric, and that same party is in charge of measuring that same metric, you are going to have the desire and the eventual act of manipulation of said metric.

FDR created “retirement” as a norm to help winnow the Unemployment rolls 80 years ago. Every administration since has just added to the manipulation mess.
