Surely you jest! I have a few favorites bookmarked but actually most of my library consists of ASL sites. I know, I know, no life ...

but my work computer doesn't like websites dealing with deadly things such as guns and armor. LOL.

The kinder gentler computer. :-)

Believe it or not most of my bookmarks are Panzer Elite, Steel Panthers, News or Music sites. That's only because I forget to bookmark sites as I find them.

LOL!! More like the Kumbaya1900.

Actually just like the news media and SUV's and guns I blamed the equipment rather than the operator.

It's not the computer, it's the network I'm on at work. Kumbaya2000, that is funny.

Durn shame too. I know the days of Battlewagons are gone, but they sure are pretty looking.

Some day, I want to build a RC model of the Missourri. I figure a 6~8 foot hull will be the best compromise between too big to transport and too small to have enough freeboard.

Looking for SPAM pictures, I found this from the SPAM Museum. They were dedicating an exhibit about SPAM's contribution to the War Effort.

I just might. There are groups around the country, and a big one here, that build model warships, and take them out to "battle". They've developed BB gun turrets using CO2 power.

Spam consists of chopped and pressed small hams known as pork shoulders called ‘Picnics’ and was introduced in 1937 by the Hormel Meat Company. As America entered World War II, Spam luncheon meat played a crucial role, gaining worldwide fame because of its mass distribution to GI’s overseas. With Allied forces fighting to liberate Europe, Hormel Foods provided 15 million cans of food to troops each week. As battlefronts moved forward, cans of Spam found their way to refugees or indigenous civilians. Spam immediately became a constant part of a soldiers' diets, and earned much praise for feeding the starving British and Soviet armies as well as civilians.

Spam was used as a B-ration - to be served in rotation with other meats behind the lines overseas and at camps and bases in the States. However, many times GIs were eating it two or three times a day. Also military food supply depots were known as 'Spam Canyons'. One military island encampment in the South Pacific christened itself 'Spamville' due to their constant diet of Spam.

The British relished Spam and it was always in short supply. American GIs nicknamed Britain ‘Spamland’ because of the amount of Spam consumed by them as part of Lend-Lease. A pleasing alternative to wartime sausage, the British referred to it as "Escallope of Spam." In her memoirs, Margaret Thatcher, a teenager during World War II, vividly recalls opening a tin of Spam on Boxing Day (an English holiday during the Christmas season). She wrote, ‘We had some lettuce and tomatoes and peaches, so it was Spam and salad.’

Soviet Union leader Nikita Khrushchev wrote, "Without Spam we wouldn't have been able to feed our army." Russian soldiers dubbed Spam, ‘Roosevelt or American Sausage’ as a compliment.

By May of 1945, over 100 million pounds of Spam had been shipped overseas.

Note: vacuum-packed Spam has an indefinite shelf-life, provided the integrity of the container has in no way been comprised.

Hormel Meat Co.

Spam. The other meat. All I remember is eating it what seemed like a few times a week as a child. It was cheap back then and I guess if it was good enough for our armies, it was good enough for us. :-)

I'd rather not have it now. Maybe fried once a year but that's it.

Photo taken at the General Patton museum just east of Palm Springs on the I-10. Apparantly Rosie was used for target practice before being moved to the museum.
