Morning E.G.C.

Cloudy and drizzle this morning. Mt Hood got over a foot of snow in the last 3 days.

It's a bit foggy this morning. Should be clearing off hopefully soon. We have storms in the forecast for Friday.

Folks be sure to download the updates from Norton today when they arrive.

How's it going, Snippy?

Thanks Sam for today's history lesson. This is certainly something we hear next to nothing about.

One of the  ships pictured is not a blimp. It is either the Akron or the Macon::

I just returned from Operation Shoebox, and my fingers hurt from addressing shipping labels. Hobbit lass and school chums sent 140+ shoeboxes of items for the troops.

If I was on my toes, I'd be able to tell you which it was. The picture appears to be from the Goodyear facility, so location doesn't give a clue. I can't read the notation in the bottom right corner.

I'm leaning toward it being the Macon, but I can't point to any detail that would prove or disprove that.

Posts like todays are what make the Foxhole so interesting. I never would have heard this story without this site.

One of so many young men who never returned from the war, never married, never had kids. But what he did saved two ships, many lives and led to the destruction of his killers.

I read Torpedo Junction a while back. It's an interesting little book about the early days of WWII in the East Coast shipping lanes. The U-Boats had a turkey shoot going and just one lone Coast Guard cutter out of Norfolk with ASW capability trying to stop them. It's a pretty depressing read until the end, when stubborn old Admiral King finally admitted he was wrong and began assigning destroyers to ASW duty and the shipping was organized into convoys.
